LAST WEEK: TRAVEL, CLIMATE, BRIEFING

Travelocity founder Terrell Jones moderated a Deep Dive on "Hospitality Tech" with a kickoff presentation on how forces are disrupting including how AI enhances user interfaces, enabling richer input through chat, voice, gesture, and wearables. Examples included AI-driven hotel recommendations, review summaries, and price predictions. Additionally, we touched on the integration of AI in hotel operations, with mobile check-in and concierge services. Kevin Bidner introduced HCN's tablet-based system aimed at revolutionizing hotel guest experiences by integrating local marketplaces and AI-driven concierge services. Alec Redelman chimed in with how QStay is transforming the Short-Term Rental market to new heights. See video, podcast.

The "Climate Tech" Lunch Deep Dive featured diverse perspectives on climate tech investments. Key points included the urgency of addressing climate threats, the potential for profit in climate solutions, and the importance of collaboration. We also discussed various investment strategies, such as litigation finance, clean tech transitions, and the role of AI in climate tech. The meeting emphasized the need for sustainable, scalable solutions and the importance of overcoming geopolitical and regulatory challenges. See video, podcast

In our Briefing last week we focused on the current market volatility, noting a 1% drop in NASDAQ and a 2% drop in the S&P 500, with a bullish narrative driven by anticipated Fed rate cuts of 150-200 basis points. Earnings are up 10% year-to-date, with an estimated $1 trillion in US buybacks and strong AI growth. Concerns include consumer resilience, fiscal excesses, and populist proposals. The German elections highlighted the rise of far-right and left-wing parties, reflecting voter frustrations with incumbents. The US economy is seen as the best opportunity for equities, with strong corporate earnings and a robust GDP. Emerging markets are expected to benefit from US rate cuts and a weakening dollar, though selectivity is crucial due to political and economic risks. See video, podcast.
