Turning Resolutions Into Celebrations
My 2023 had its fair share of celebrations and anniversaries. As Haworth celebrated 75 years, I reminisced about the path we have traveled together. The furniture I’m sitting in is Crossings – a product introduction that I worked on 30 years ago. I’m pretty sure I still have a t-shirt from when we hit $10 million in sales – a long way from the $2.5 billion of today.
I know Haworth is successful because of our roots, all that we have learned along the way and what we take into our future.
So, I want to look at 2024 resolutions another way. Let’s just celebrate.
Let’s celebrate the future and draw from the past. I am going to treat each goal like a party – toast the work done to get there, cheer for how far the project has already come and fortify for the work still to do. It’s going to be small celebrations throughout the year.
In order to do this, I think it’s helpful to look at goals like a tree. We draw from the roots and stabilize for the future. We don’t necessarily know if the path is going straight up or out… and realize that its often crooked. The heights are celebrated, and we want to go even higher. A windstorm might come along so we understand and rely on those roots to help heal and grow.
I wish you the very happiest of holidays and many thanks for reading. Get in the mood to celebrate!

1yThat was just before my time there, but I remember being so inspired by that work. It still resonates.
