TWO STRANGERS (CARRY A CAKE ACROSS NEW YORK) REVIEWS

Hold on to your cupcakes folks, the reviews are IN for Tim Jackson’s West End production of Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), and it is a certified delicious HIT! Here is a rundown of the critics cake…*sorry, take.

The Telegraph **** 'Tim Jackson’s production keeps an effectively tight focus on them, using a clever set (by Soutra Gilmour) consisting of piled-up suitcases that evoke skyscrapers, and which open up to reveal, variously, a cupboard, seats on the subway, or the table at a Chinese restaurant. Add in the requisite flurry of snow, and this gentle gem has all the ingredients to be an irresistibly sweet treat for the festive season.'

Whatsonstage ***** ‘Two Strangers is as good a night out in the West End as you can get. Director Tim Jackson keeps the pace fleet – sentimentality is alighted upon, but never overindulged. He essentially captures the experience of a whistle-stop trip to New York – chaotic, bright, bold and relentless.’

London Theatre **** 'Happily, the transfer hasn’t disrupted the gentle charm of this gorgeous two-hander – quite the opposite. Tim Jackson’s production is still an intimate experience, honing in on a pair of lost souls, but Sam Tutty and Dujonna Gift have subtly expanded their excellent performances to suit the new space.'

Theatre Weekly ***** 'Directed with a nuanced flair by Tim Jackson, Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is a comedy first and foremost, and our leads have perfectly mastered the comic timing required to pull off the delicate balance between humour and pathos.'

West End Best Friend ***** 'With a killer soundtrack, it is a must-see for theatregoers looking for a joyous and thoroughly entertaining experience.'

The Spy In The Stalls ***** 'Two Strangers” (as the title is lovingly shortened to) is part musical, part movie, part fairy-tale, part dream. But wholly unmissable.'

Two Strangers is currently playing at the Criterion Theatre. Be sure to snap up your tickets to see this sweet treat.
