It's not all blog posts and infographics anymore. These days, content takes on various formats to capture eyeballs and win conversions.

Engagement and link-building content types 

  • It is essential to have great content, but how you deliver it is equally important. The ROI and engagement of some forms of content continue to be higher than those of others.
  • The types of content you create aren't limited, but if you're having trouble brainstorming, consider one or more of these.

Authority Content 

Content that builds your (or your brand's) credentials in an industry is authority content.

If you want to drive traffic, engagement, and backlinks, put out some well-considered authority content (sometimes called topical authority — or perception that you know what you're talking about. Google looks explicitly for it, which can be one of the best ways to rank higher.

If you write authority content, you will:

  • Citing scientific studies or other highly credible sources.
  • Detailing a topic in great detail while linking to subtopics throughout the piece as authority content often comprises content pillars).
  • We provide specialized knowledge that is difficult to acquire elsewhere.

The E-Book

Statista values the e-book market at $15 to $18 billion and expects it to grow.

E-books get less attention than they should when it comes to content for marketing.

A dedicated digital marketing strategy makes it easier and easier to reach a wider audience with e-books since they're easier to produce than regular print books.

Opinion Pieces

  • Everyone has an opinion, and as an industry leader, yours might have more impact than you think.
  • Publishing on sites such as Medium and Huffington Post lets thought leaders share their ideas and take advantage of the domain's credibility, putting your opinions in the spotlight.
  • Additionally, it's a quality backlink that you can use for your blog.
  • Write an opinion piece if you have a unique perspective on a topic or a current event.

Quality How-To Content

What makes tutorials and how-to content so popular?

Your readers will be inspired to engage with your brand more if you create how-to content. In such content, readers do not just learn about your brand; they solve problems or meet their needs with your guidance. Best of all, how-to content needs to be format-specific. Videos, blogs, infographics, and more can all be created.

Research Pieces that are Original

Is there anything better than well-researched, authoritative content?  

Original research-based authority content. In many cases, today's content is modeled after other content.

There are times, however, when original research is required.

Performing original research correctly can drive engagement, leads, and backlinks. My most shared content has always been interviews and original research.

Many content marketers dream of going viral, but how to make content go viral seems mystical.

Virality first emerged in the social media video world, where only about 1% of videos are considered viral.

Today, however, any piece of content can go viral.

Here's a rough guide to creating trending content that goes viral:

  • Use a news or social media aggregator to stay on top of your industry.
  • Viral content should be fast, a flash in the pan.
  • Please give it a twist that makes people do a double-take.
  • It would be best to evoke emotion, whether laughter or awe.

Video

In terms of viral videos, these are still the most popular forms of content in the 2020s.

Videos have many advantages, but they're worth repeating here. Video content is great because of it:

  • Utilizes visual and audio content.
  • Text or other static content is bolstered.
  • Transcripts provide SEO support.
  • Uploadable and shareable.
  • Engages users through content or sharing.

Rules for Investing in High-return Content

Creating high-return content that boosts engagement, links, and conversions is easy.

Follow these fundamental rules for success no matter what content you create.

  • Keep it on topic
  • We have all become multi-passionate professionals who find it challenging to focus on and stick to one thing. However, building your content base requires staying on topic.
  • Let your content differentiation factor guide your content creation.
  • Invest in professionals
  • You shouldn't be afraid to hire professional writers to write your content - 80% of your competitors do.
  • Patience is a virtue.
  • Please be sure to keep long-term goals in mind when you start feeling itchy for results. Your business wasn't built in a day, nor is your content base.
  • Adapt Your Approach as Needed
  • If something doesn't work, critically analyze what happened, and adjust your strategy. (I've had e-books and interviews fail.)
  • Make sure your formats are diverse.
  • According to HubSpot, blogs, e-books, and videos are the three most popular types of content.
  • Diversifying your media will better prepare you to allow your readers to share content across multiple platforms.

Make sure you do your research.

  • When doing research, I don't just mean figuring out what your readers want to read. Research keywords, industry news, and what your competitors are writing about - and deliver something even more valuable.

Develop a content strategy.

  • Your content strategy is the answer to why you're doing what you're doing before you dive into the wonderful world of content creation.
  • Make use of modern SEO best practices.
  • Since Google got started in 1998, SEO has been around for a while. And there needs to be more quality information out there. Ensure you use modern SEO best practices since they've changed so much.
  • Achieving high ROI content takes time.

It's no surprise that content marketing is taking over the content world - it's customizable, interactive, engaging, and original.

As you've probably noticed, there's a catch if you've made it this far.

Content marketing and high-quality content are long-term investments.
