Data comes in many forms and areas of any business and requires different handling and analyzing. Are you familiar with them all?

The Backbone: Operational Data

  • Purpose: Supports the day-to-day operations of a business.
  • Examples: Transaction processing, inventory management, order fulfillment, and customer service interactions.

The Navigator: Analytical Data

  • Purpose: Used to analyze business performance and make strategic decisions.
  • Examples: Sales performance analysis, market research, financial analysis, and operational efficiency assessments.

The Visionary: Strategic Data

  • Purpose: Aids in setting long-term goals and directions for the company.
  • Examples: Market expansion analysis, product development planning, competitive analysis, and risk assessment.

The Guardian: Compliance and Reporting Data

  • Purpose: Ensures the company meets regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Examples: Financial reporting, audit trails, compliance reporting (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), and sustainability reporting.

The Persuader: Marketing and Sales Data

  • Purpose: Enhances marketing strategies and sales efforts.

  • Examples: Customer segmentation, campaign analysis, lead scoring, and customer journey analytics.

The Empath: Customer Experience and Engagement Data

  • Purpose: Improves customer interactions and satisfaction.

The Inventor: Innovation and Product Development Data

  • Purpose: Drives the development of new products and the improvement of existing ones.

The Strategist: Human Resources and Workforce Analytics

  • Purpose: Optimizes workforce management and development.

The Logistician: Supply Chain and Logistics Data

  • Purpose: Improves the efficiency and reliability of the supply chain and logistics.

The Protector: Risk Management Data

  • Purpose: Identifies and mitigates various risks to the business.

You can start seeing value in what you have

Before you get overwhelmed, it's important to emphasize that you don't need all data types to start seeing the value in your organization.

You see, data is more than a tech change or business modification. It is also an organizational-cultural change.

That's why the better these data types in the organization are synced and intended to provide insights - the better decision-making happens.

That is when the business becomes data-driven, not as a slogan, but in actuality.
