Gaskets are essential components used to create a leak-tight seal between two or more mating surfaces in various industrial and mechanical applications. There are several types of gaskets, each designed for specific purposes based on factors like pressure, temperature, and the media being sealed. Here are some common types of gaskets:

1. Non-Metallic Gaskets:

- Compressed Non-Asbestos Gaskets (CNA): Made from a blend of synthetic fibers, fillers, and elastomers, CNA gaskets are used for general sealing applications. They are suitable for low to medium pressure and temperature ranges.

- Rubber Gaskets: Made from materials like neoprene, EPDM, and silicone, rubber gaskets are used in applications where resistance to moisture, chemicals, and temperature variations is required.

- Cork Gaskets: Cork gaskets are made from cork and rubber binders, providing a good seal for low-pressure applications and fluids.

2. Metallic Gaskets:

- Spiral Wound Gaskets: These gaskets consist of a V-shaped metal strip and a filler material like graphite or PTFE. They are used in high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

- Ring Joint Gaskets: Typically used in high-pressure applications such as oil and gas industry flanges. They have a specific shape and require special grooves in the flange faces to seal effectively.

- Kammprofile Gaskets: These gaskets consist of a solid metal core with concentric serrations on each side, providing excellent sealability and recovery properties.

- Metal Jacketed Gaskets: Comprising a metallic outer shell with a soft filler material, these gaskets are suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

3. Semi-Metallic Gaskets:

- Graphite Gaskets: Made from flexible graphite, these gaskets are highly resistant to extreme temperatures and can be used in various applications.

- PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Gaskets: PTFE gaskets have excellent chemical resistance and are suitable for sealing corrosive fluids.

- Compressed Fiber Gaskets: These gaskets combine non-metallic and metallic components, providing excellent sealing under moderate pressure and temperature conditions.

4. Solid Material Gaskets:

- PTFE Gaskets: Solid PTFE gaskets offer outstanding chemical resistance and are used in applications where a pure, uncontaminated seal is required.

- Urethane Gaskets: Made from polyurethane, these gaskets are known for their flexibility and resistance to abrasion and chemicals.

5. O-Rings: These are typically used in dynamic sealing applications, such as in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. O-rings are usually made from rubber or elastomeric materials.

6. Square and Rectangular Gaskets: These gaskets are used in applications with non-standard shapes or where square or rectangular sealing surfaces are required.

7. Lens Gaskets: Lens gaskets are shaped like a convex lens and are commonly used in sight glass applications to provide a clear view of the contents while maintaining a seal.

The choice of gasket material and type depends on the specific requirements of the application, including factors such as temperature, pressure, chemical compatibility, and the characteristics of the mating surfaces. It's important to select the appropriate gasket material to ensure a reliable and long-lasting seal in your specific application.
