Un Filtered: How to

Un Filtered: How to

This article is all you need to read if you are stuck with the basic question of, “How to…” do anything in life. But why should you read what I have to say? Because whatever I’m going to tell is just plain truth and has been inspired by my own experiences! And aren’t we all just looking for stories to get inspired OR to criticise? Then this story might be your next (best 😌) read!

Basically, what I’m trying to prove from this piece is that if a hopeless and dreamless person like me can figure out a way in this not-so forgiving world then You, yes You, can guaranteed do it.

There’s no easy way I learned this and neither am I going to share you some #top10 hacks for a better life or #best5 ways to improve your life. All I can assure you that by the end of reading this long post, you would either start following what I said or you’d just close the tab and forget about it.

We live in a world where when turned 20 we are given this huge responsibility to figure out our life. How innocently and unknowingly we make certain decisions that actually build up the rest of the next 25 years of our lives. With a strange realisation like this, when I completed my masters, I was ready to enter into another denial by spending the next 5 years of my life pursuing MPhil, and later on a PhD in English literature. Thankfully, I had people around me who questioned me enough; I agreed to get a taste of the corporate world and match my skills to “fit in”.

The major turmoil within me at that time was, “How to”? Just these sudden and nerve-wrecking questions — how to find a good job, how to land a high paying job in a non-IT sector, how to find the right skills etc etc. Little did I know by then that there’s only one way for a literature major in this corporate world and that is : Content writing. I had a hang of writing content earlier but I was never sold on the fact that I loved doing it. When I got a full-time role as a writer, I was still struggling to find my balance. I wasn’t too sure to love this field because it was too early.

But when you’re unhappy and know what you are more capable than the stuff you are actually putting out right now, that’s when you take some major steps to shrug off the monotonous and not-so happy phase of your life. I started with a few exciting courses, took some community-driven classes and made sure I genuinely get a good hand at what interests me.

I started focusing on building myself as someone who would one day do something like this. I built my own website, I managed a few gigs where in I learned a lot about how to do things differently and creatively. None of the people around me knew about what I’m doing and whom I was looking up to. It was just me, but on the sides doing work that really spoke to me. The work that would uplift me, help me grow both professionally and personally.

There was a time in my career where I transitioned from a full-time writer to a manager. It’s funny when I say “there was a time in my career” because (as haters gonna say) I was too young and immature to be a leader or a manager at such a young age! Being recognised is something, but also been accepted as someone who’s trying to fit in and also striving to make the best out of nothing was a huge challenge.

There will always be questions against you and on you when you are doing something people aren’t used to/comfortable seeing in, but when you do, when you put your right intentions on the table every single time, you will fly high. You will always be miles away (for better) from people who can not see your value, and you will always find your way to places where you know your worth and the others do too. 💫

By the time you win over those little battles, you would realise how petty were your problems at that time and yet how bravely you solved all of them. So, whenever someone says that they are stuck and they don’t know what to do, just ask them to go for that one-heck of an idea they have been meaning to give a shot, a course long pending or even a trip with friends! You have NO idea how the universe has planned crazy things for you. ✨

I have been a firm believer of the power of manifesting. So okay, I’ll give you just this 1 little HACK. (Guilty af) Whatever goal you have planned ahead, whatever thing you are looking for next, WRITE it down on a piece of paper and place it somewhere you can see all the time. Write down the result of what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to start your side gig, write down the number of projects you’ll work on by the end of the week, if you want to increase your pay check, write down the exact numbers and place it at a space where you go more often.

I did it by placing the sticky-note on the mirror and what I did try new was that I wrote it in a secret code. The answer of which was only with me. Which meant, only I could decipher the meaning (mostly because I am a firm believer of nazar lag jayegi xD) and placed it where I would frequently see it and bring it to action. I am not going to disclose the goal, neither am I going to say this works for everyone, but it did work for me. In fact, it worked beautifully for me.

Soooo, no matter how unlikely-achievable and impossible your current hand written post-it note seems to you, put it in front of your mirror and gradually the universe will make it happen. Tbh the universe is YOU, so you will be taking certain decisions, some actions wherein you would always have your goal at the back of your mind.

You may call it pseudo-science, tantar-mantar or whatever you wish to, but when you write down your goals, you have cleared all the doubts around it in achieving it. You have stopped your funny brain in making yourself believe that you might not be worthy of aiming so high.

By writing it down you start to believe in YOU before anyone else.

And that is the ONLY hack you need in your life; if you’re stuck at “How to…”
