The Case: Challenges and Problems

My father was in a Govt Job with a basic paycheck. There was this day, when due to negligence from the officials, a few employees were moved from permanent role to temporary role with half pay. And, there were situations when he was not paid for months and the worst, never paid for 2+ years. Adding more to it - we didn't receive any monetary help from even our own family cousins.

Did he lose hope? Did he feel defeated? Absolutely not.

↪ He made sure his family gets the 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿.

↪ He made sure our 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀.

↪ He made sure to get us 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 during festivities.

↪ He made sure to attend family functions to uplift 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲.

↪ He made sure to continue his job with 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and devotion.

And, after standing and fighting for his career, the time came when his role was moved to a permanent role again with better pay.

Standing for the Cause

Even after moving to the permanent role, it was not an end to the problems. Again their job was put in jeopardy because of the some reasons at the University for which they teamed up and stood for their cause. They filed the case against the University, corrupt officials and kept constantly fighting for their rights. A few team members retired while the case was still going on, and a few even dead before the final hearing :( Did they deserve that? Let me know your thoughts.

This was one of the reason I deeply hated Govt. job all through my life. You work passionately, and you are not even entitled to get regular paycheck. He was not alone. There were many like him who were impacted. Some stories are similar, but only a few make it to the daylight, like this one.

𝗛𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

Warrior Spirit

Be in his shoes, imagine and visualize, how deeper pain he must have been going through. All thoughts about - 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁, 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀, 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 and what not. But, he never gave up. He kept breathing and moving ahead, and on top of that, he use to motivate us to 𝗴𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱.

𝗠𝘆 Humble Pledge

Seeing financial instability issues all through my life, I was determined to secure Honors and a campus placement before showing my face to my parents. All 4 years in Engineering, I never went home to meet my parents, neither had asked them to see me. From student to hostel warden, to pioneering mentorship in the college. While all other students used to visit their parents or vice-versa, my parents were only in my thoughts along with my vision and mission.

The Winning and Celebration

Fast forward today, post retirement, he won the case with all the pension, arrears coming his way with some still stuck, waiting for more push.

He never left the hope of winning. Isn't it a fighter spirit? Maybe, I'm fortunate to have blessed with the similar spirit from my Grandfather(the then freedom fighter and a farmer) and my father, and that I'm proud of.

By the time he retired, he settled back in the country side. But, boy, did he celebrate after winning the case? It was party with his old friends, and more than 2500 people gathered, and had a great feast. Fortunately, we were there to plan, implement and witness this.
