Underground Insights: Gobble Up the Gratitude!

Underground Insights: Gobble Up the Gratitude!

Hey there, fellow turkey enthusiasts!

Thanksgiving is here—the annual celebration of overeating, pie debates, and expertly dodging family questions like “When are you getting married?” or “Why are you still working there?” But between bites of turkey and sprints for the last crescent roll, it’s also a chance to reflect on what really matters. And for me, there’s so much to be grateful for (and no, it’s not just the leftover stuffing).

First, let’s talk about my MVP, my rock, the love of my life—Teresa. After 29 years of marriage, I’m still wondering how I got so lucky (and how she’s managed to put up with me for this long). Teresa, you’ve been my cheerleader through every high and low, my sounding board for all the big decisions, and my partner in building a life that makes me proud every single day. You’re the heart of the McCarty legacy, and I’m beyond thankful for you.

Speaking of legacies, I can’t talk about gratitude without mentioning our incredible kids, Sean and Madison. I am beyond proud of both of them. Watching them navigate the rollercoaster of young adulthood—taking on challenges like rockstars and growing into the amazing young adults they are—has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Sean has shown so much strength and perseverance as he juggles his demanding job and still manages to handle life’s curveballs. Madison, with her grit and determination, has faced every challenge with a level of maturity and focus that blows me away.

Every time I see them rise above the obstacles they encounter, I can’t help but smile. They’re not just surviving—they’re thriving, and I couldn’t be prouder. They carry the McCarty name with such pride, honor, and kindness, and that’s all a parent can hope for. I always remind them: the McCarty name stands for something. It’s about treating others with respect, showing resilience, and working hard to build something meaningful. Seeing them live that out every day fills my heart with more pride than I can put into words.

Gratitude doesn’t stop at my family—it extends to my career. Subsurface Utility Engineering isn’t just a job; it’s been my calling and my passion. I’ve had the privilege of working on projects that make a difference, alongside some of the best friends a guy could ask for. It’s rare to find work that feels like home, and I’m endlessly thankful for the journey this career has taken me on.

Moving to the Emerald Coast was a leap of faith, but it’s been a blessing. While Teresa and I miss our family back in Arizona every single day, we’ve built a life here that’s full of beauty, opportunity, and community. From the stunning white sand beaches to the warm embrace of our GeoPoint family, we’re surrounded by reasons to be thankful.

As we head into the holiday season, I find myself humming Jimmy Buffett’s Attitude of Gratitude: "It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It’s what you leave behind you when you go."

For me, gratitude is more than saying thank you—it’s about building a legacy that makes people proud to know you. Whether it’s through the love we share, the work we do, or the kindness we offer, we’re all leaving our mark. And I want mine to be one of love, resilience, and appreciation.

So, this Thanksgiving, as you sit around the table with your loved ones, take a moment to soak it all in. Hug your people, eat the pie (even the weird pumpkin one), and remember: calories don’t count today.

To all of you reading Underground Insights, thank you for being part of my journey. Your feedback, ideas, and support mean the world to me. Now, go forth, feast like royalty, and live your legacy with gratitude and pride.

Stay thankful, stay full, and may your turkey always be juicy!

With a grateful heart,
