Unleashing Africa's Agricultural Potential: Strategies for Sustainable Development and Global Leadership.
Unleashing Africa's Agricultural Potential: Strategies for Sustainable Development and Global Leadership.
Abstract: Africa, endowed with 60% of the world's arable land, faces the paradox of being a net food importer. Despite a burgeoning population and rapid urbanization, agricultural production struggles to keep pace. As the continent braces for a projected population of 2 billion by 2050, the imperative for agricultural transformation is clear. This essay explores the potential impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on the agricultural development landscape and delineates comprehensive strategies for Africa to leverage its demographic and economic transitions, aiming not only to feed itself but to become the breadbasket of the world.

My fervent wish in writing this article is for it to land on the desk of someone in the department of agriculture in each of the 54 member states of the AU.
Pass it on up the chain till it gets to the top. Discuss this among yourselves and arrange a meeting to have the final document detailing how to proceed, signed in Accra, Ghana. It is time to dream big. You know and I know there is work to do. So what the hell are we waiting for?

10moThank you for sharing your thoughts. Africa still has untapped potential when it comes to agricultural resources. Good governance and supportive policies that benefit the people are necessary to harness this potential. This serves as a reminder to all of us that there is much work to be done in the agricultural sector of Nigeria.
