TODAY’S FEATURE: Unlock Your Superpowers
Using Strengths to Thrive in Business
Have you ever noticed that some days everything just clicks? You’re in the zone, things are happening effortlessly, and you’re hitting goals like a pro. Other days? Not so much. It feels like you’re wading through mud, wondering why things aren’t working. What if I told you that your most successful moments could be replicated, and that it all comes down to one simple thing—your strengths.
This Thursday, I’m diving deep into that exact topic with a special guest on our Virtual Coffee: a CliftonStrengths coach. You might be asking yourself: “What are strengths? And why should I care?” Well, grab your coffee (or whatever gets you through the day), and let’s talk about why knowing your strengths is a total game-changer for your business—and your life.

What Are Strengths, Anyway?
If you’re not familiar with CliftonStrengths, let’s break it down. The CliftonStrengths assessment, developed by Gallup, helps you identify your top natural talents. These are the things you do well without even trying—your unique, built-in superpowers. The idea is that we’re all wired differently, and when you understand what makes you tick, you can focus on playing to your strengths rather than trying to fix your weaknesses.
There are 34 CliftonStrengths themes, and they’re grouped into four domains:
Sounds pretty powerful, right?
How to Identify Your Strengths
Step one in leveraging your strengths is figuring out what they are. If you’ve taken the CliftonStrengths assessment, you already have a list of your top strengths. If not, don’t worry, there are clues everywhere. Think about the tasks that make you feel energized. What are the things you do where time just flies by? What do people often come to you for?
For example, maybe you’re the person who’s always calm in a crisis, able to create a plan when everything seems chaotic. That’s your Strategic Thinking at work. Or maybe you’re the one who effortlessly brings people together to collaborate and get things done—that’s Relationship Building.
Why You Should Leverage Your Strengths
Here’s where things get really exciting. Once you know what your strengths are, you can start using them intentionally in your business every day. Most of us are guilty of focusing too much on our weaknesses. We think, “If I could just get better at [insert thing you hate doing], I’d be successful.”
That’s a trap.
Imagine Michael Jordan spending all his time trying to become a better golfer instead of perfecting his basketball game. Ridiculous, right? The same applies to you. The more you focus on your strengths, the more you can play to your natural abilities, perform at a higher level, and enjoy the process.
Integrating Strengths into Your Business: The Daily Power Play
So how do you actually use your strengths in your business?
Know Your Strength Zone
First things first, get crystal clear on what your strengths are. Then, take an honest look at your business activities. Are you spending most of your time in your strength zone? Or are you stuck doing things that drain your energy? For instance, if you have strong Influencing strengths, you’re likely fantastic at making deals, leading a team, or pitching ideas. But maybe you dread the detailed admin work. Newsflash: You don’t have to be good at everything. Delegate those things that aren’t in your zone of genius.
Use Your Strengths to Solve Problems
When a challenge comes up, your first instinct might be to focus on what’s not working. Instead, flip the script. Ask yourself, “How can I solve this using my strengths?” If you have Executing strengths, create a plan and take action. If you’re strong in Strategic Thinking, gather information and think through different scenarios. By leaning into your strengths, you’ll not only solve problems faster but with less stress.
Team Alignment
If you lead a team (or plan to), understanding not just your strengths but also the strengths of your team members is a game-changer. People perform better when they’re working in areas where they naturally excel. Let’s say you have someone with strong Relationship Building strengths. They’re probably your go-to for managing client relationships or building partnerships. Someone with Executing strengths? Put them in charge of operations or project management. The key is to align each person’s role with their natural talents, and watch productivity and job satisfaction skyrocket.
Leverage Your Strengths in Marketing and Sales
Marketing and sales can feel overwhelming—especially if you’re not naturally wired for those areas. But guess what? There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy. Instead of trying to follow what the “gurus” are doing, use your strengths to create your own approach. For example, if you’re strong in Influencing, lean into that. Maybe you’re great at making connections in person or delivering persuasive presentations. Not a people person? Use Strategic Thinking to create a data-driven online strategy. The point is, there are many paths to success, and the best one is the one that fits you.
Focus on Energy Management, Not Time Management
We hear it all the time—manage your time better. But here’s the thing: time is finite, and it can only take you so far. What you really need to manage is your energy. When you’re operating in your strength zone, you’re more energized and productive. Tasks that align with your strengths take less effort and give you more energy. On the flip side, when you spend too much time on activities that don’t play to your strengths, it drains your energy and slows you down. Pay attention to how you feel throughout the day and adjust accordingly.
Strengths in Action: A Case Study
Let’s put this into a real-world example. Imagine a real estate agent—let’s call her Sarah—who has Relationship Building and Executing strengths in her top five. Sarah loves connecting with people, and she’s a natural when it comes to helping clients feel comfortable and confident throughout the buying or selling process. But here’s the thing: Sarah also used to think she needed to be great at social media and digital marketing to grow her business. She spent hours every week trying to figure out SEO, creating Instagram reels, and crafting the perfect email campaign—and she hated it.
Then, Sarah decided to double down on her strengths. She focused more on building relationships face-to-face and less on online marketing. She hosted local events, partnered with other businesses, and made sure every client felt like family. The result? Her business grew rapidly—not because she followed some cookie-cutter formula, but because she leaned into what she was naturally good at.
Three Steps to Start Leveraging Your Strengths Today
Ready to start using your strengths to thrive in your business? Here are three simple steps to get started:
Take the CliftonStrengths Assessment
If you haven’t already, take the CliftonStrengths assessment to discover your top five strengths. It’s an investment in understanding yourself better and unlocking your full potential. This is a paid assessment, so we will also offer you an alternative at no cost called the Standout Assessment.

Audit Your Activities
Spend a day or two tracking your business activities. Which tasks energize you, and which ones drain you? Be honest with yourself and look for ways to spend more time in your strength zone. This might mean delegating, automating, or even eliminating certain tasks that don’t align with your strengths.
Create a Strengths-Based Action Plan
Once you’ve identified your strengths, create a plan to leverage them daily. Whether it’s through solving problems, interacting with your team, or approaching clients, find ways to put your strengths at the forefront of everything you do. And remember: you don’t have to do it all. Play to your strengths and let others support you in areas where you’re not as strong.
You don’t need to be everything to everyone. The real power lies in knowing what you’re naturally great at and using those strengths to drive your business forward. Join me this Thursday on Virtual Coffee as we dive deeper into this topic with a CliftonStrengths coach who will show you how to identify, leverage, and integrate your strengths into your business—and life—on the daily.
See you there!
