UNLOCKING AFTER THE LOCKDOWN
Life for most of us can be defined as “Pre Lockdown” and “Post Lockdown”, with clear distinctions for each era.
The announcement of the complete lockdown was something that our generation had not witnessed. Corporates started investing in technology and familiarising employees with the WFH concept. On the personal front people started stocking essentials and prepared themselves to be bartanwali, jhaduwali , cook, cleaner as it meant total isolation. The migrant labour who were hit hard with no source of income and made attempts to reach their homes and villages.
The government, relying on the fact that the worst was over, started relaxing the restrictions gradually. The gradual unlocking continued and today we are at a stage that most of the restrictions have been removed, either entirely or partially. But of course we now have news of new strains of COVID that is yet to decide how life will move from here…..
Organizations have learnt many lessons from this lockdown. Frankly, it appears that we were spending too much money and wasting too much time without justification.
- Businesses have right sized and cut down on costs. Primarily workspace and manpower. Business travel is now being undertaken only when it is an absolute necessity.
- Zoom, Google Hangout, Blue Jeans, Teams and Virtual meetings are now the new normal.
- Gig economy is here to stay with plug and play options.
- Companies, including those that swore that remote working results in a dip in productivity, have realized that employee efficiency and productivity have gone up
These changes in attitudes and perceptions are here to stay. For the sceptics, it can be said that they have no choice but to adjust to the new situation. For those who welcome change, this is an ideal situation to show the world that humans can adapt well to changing situations. But a clear message to all is LIVE LIFE KINGSIZE AS LIFE IS SHORT!!!

4yNice. The euphoria of WFH has subsided I would think. I also hope that HR leaders are doing a dip stick into how these extended working hours and lack of social interactions in office are impacting the morale of their work force. If the morale is going down then its only a matter of time before efficiency levels also start to go south.
