Unlocking Keyword Research Success: A Step-By-Step Guide 🚀
Struggling with keyword research? Don’t worry! Here, I’m sharing my keyword research method that will prove effective.
Keywords are the heart of SEO. The use of the right keywords is the key to successful online marketing. Researching the right keywords has been a great challenge in the SEO world.
However, with a planned and proven strategy, you can find high-impact keywords and make your content visible on the top of search engine results pages (SERPs).
Here is my strategy for keyword research:
1. Identify Your Top Competitors 🧐
The first step to finding impactful keywords is to identify your competitors. With this, you can know the scope of ranking well. You can use Google search to search for your competitors.
Enter a keyword related to your niche or business; your potential competitors are the websites that get in the top positions. As an initial process, my best advice is to analyze 5 to 6 competitors. This helps you understand the competitive landscape and opportunities to improve your website.
2. Reverse Analyze with Ahrefs/SEMRUSH 📊
After you enlist a few potential competitors, use tools like Ahrefs, SEMRush, and Moz to uncover powerful keywords for which your competitors rank.
These robust SEO tools offer comprehensive insights into a website’s backlinks, top-ranking keywords, organic and paid traffic, and top-performing pages.
By understanding and interpreting insights into your competitors’ SEO strategies, you can outline your own SEO strategy to help your website rank in the top position in SERP. You can use the backlink data for your link-building strategy.

3. Discover Their Top Traffic Pages 📈
The next step is to review your competitors' websites' top-ranking pages. Pages that are ranking top in SERP are optimized for potential keywords. Analyze those pages and understand the keyword strategy.
In addition, pay attention to the article structure, format, and quality of content. Ensure you understand how and where your competitors place keywords on their pages. Take into account the keyword density.
I use Ahrefs to identify primary and secondary keywords for a particular page. Also, this tool provides some common questions people ask about the topic. Including them in content makes it helpful for people.
4. Extract the Main Keyword 🔍
Primary keywords are terms people are searching for on the internet. When you use them in your content, search engines can differentiate your content from others and may put your page on the top results.

However, randomly placing keywords (keyword stuffing) into content for ranking does not help anyway. You must ensure you place keywords naturally in content and make sense to readers.
Regarding the primary keyword, include it in the first paragraph, 75% of your headings, and a conclusion. In addition, use it in the title, SEO title, and meta description. This increases your chances of getting a better position in search engine results.
5. Identify Low Competition Keywords 🎯
Low-competition keywords are search queries for which fewer companies compete. As they have less competition, ranking with the right content strategy becomes easy.
After you enlist some primary keywords, use SEO tools, like Ahrefs or Moz, to find their low-competition keywords. As said earlier, I use Ahrefs. It helps me filter keywords with their difficulty levels of ranking. Choose the keywords with low difficulty.
Later, check whether low KD keywords are relevant to your topic. If yes, move forward with them.
6. Create High-Quality Content 📝
What matters the most in the SEO game is the quality of content. If your content does not match the keyword or title or does not provide information that people are looking for, search engines will not rank your page.
So, focus on writing high-quality content that answers user queries and takes care of keyword placement density and content structure.
7. Build Internal Links 🔗
Internal links refer to linking your existing pages to the current one. This helps you connect pages on your website. Internal links improve content relevancy, navigation, page authority, information hierarchy, and indexing. All these are essential factors to improve your website’s SEO.
So, while publishing new content, add intern links (links from existing website pages).
Unleash the Power of Keyword Research!
If you are an absolute beginner, the best way to learn and implement SEO is to analyze your competitors’ sites. This is what I followed in my initial days.
I have jotted down all the steps, from keyword research to publishing content, to help improve your website’s ranking. Above all, consistency plays a crucial role in SEO success.
