This career growth path workshop proved to be an invaluable catalyst in optimizing my career growth. I gained a deeper understanding of my core values, aspirations, and strengths.

It delved into the core elements essential for success – identifying our core values, crafting a personalized Personal Growth Plan (PGP), and embracing the profound philosophy of KaiZen to foster continuous improvement.

Select the 2 values that you identify with the most.

Tip: Start by selecting 10 or even 15 values, then narrow down your options by asking yourself these questions for each selected value: Does this define me? Is this who am I at my best? Is this a filter I use to make hard decisions?

Through introspection, I discovered my purpose and core values, such as growth and learning, which became my moral compass for a more meaningful and purposeful existence. These values are the driving force behind my actions and decisions, guiding me towards continuous improvement and personal development. Embracing a mindset of constant learning allows me to gain new knowledge, skills, and insights, while a commitment to growth enables me to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and strive for progress in all aspects of life. These values not only shape my professional endeavors but also enrich my personal journey, empowering me to lead a fulfilling and purposeful life.

What “Purpose” Actually Is? Purpose is about who we are at our core, what we love, what gives us meaning and happiness, what makes us want to keep going even in challenging times, and how we want to give impact to those around us. It's the deep understanding of our values, passions, and strengths that fuel our drive and guide us toward a fulfilling and purposeful life.

Learn how to create your own Personal Growth Plan (PGP)

Having identified my purpose and values, I crafted a comprehensive Personal Growth Plan (PGP). The PGP served as a roadmap for my career and personal development. It empowered me to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for my future development. By aligning my values, purpose, and goals, the PGP provided a roadmap that guided me towards a fulfilling career. I was able to determine the habits, skills, and knowledge that I need to develop or improve to fulfill my purpose. It was a structured approach that ensured I stayed focused, disciplined, and committed to my aspirations.

Step 1: Establish A Clear Vision

Adding your values and purpose in your PGP will create connection between the goals and action you are doing with the Big WHY.

Step 2: Look for Development Opportunities

a. Development Goal - Create short-term, S.M.A.R.T goals

b. Development Actions - Options (the how) to achieve your goals

Questions to answer:

  1. On Experience - What opportunities do you have to acquire knowledge and practice new skills and behavior?
  2. On Exposure - Who can you learn from to broaden your knowledge? Do you have a mentor or colleague to help?
  3. On Education - What offline and online resources can you leverage to enrich the knowledge in that area?

Step 3: Formulate Action Plan

Every goal must be S.M.A.R.T - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Set specific actions and date for yout Development Plan and Stay committed to it.

Questions to answer:

  1. What specific actions do you need to take and when to achieve your development goal?
  2. What does success look like for you?
  3. What support do you need from your mentor, manager or colleagues?

Step 4: Review and Evaluate

  • Discuss and align with your Mentor figure to finalize your PGP and start executing your plan!
  • Revisit your PGP quarterly and track your development progress - Reflect on what you’ve achieved and what you still need to accomplish Changing mindset and developing new skills and habits take time so make you celebrate small wins!
  • Share your learnings - This will help not only to grow but also to boost your team's growth!

Questions to answer:

  1. What are some of your progress and challenges?
  2. What support do you need?
  3. What have you learned that you can share with your broader team?

Commit to Your Goal with KaiZen

"KaiZen" is a Japanese term that consists of two parts: "Kai" and "Zen." "Kai" means "change", and "Zen" means "wisdom". So, when combined, "KaiZen" can be interpreted as "change for the better" or "continuous improvement". The philosophy of Kaizen, focused on continuous small improvements, has been a game-changer in my personal and professional life. By committing to daily improvements and staying consistent, I learned that even the smallest actions contribute to my personal growth and career success.

Embracing the Kaizen philosophy reshaped my mindset towards challenges and setbacks. Instead of seeking instant perfection, I now embrace the notion of continuous improvement. Small, consistent steps taken towards my goals have become a powerful means of progress. This philosophy has instilled resilience and adaptability in me, enabling me to view obstacles as opportunities for growth and development.
