Unlocking Your Visibility Confidence with One Question

Unlocking Your Visibility Confidence with One Question

Most business owners I speak with have one big wish:

That the right clients would magically land in their lap.

I can’t lie, I would LOVE that too!

But, as hard as we wish, this rarely happens.

We can’t escape it. We need to put in some groundwork to ensure our dream clients can find us, fall in love with what they discover, and comfortably step into our world.

However, there is often a long list of things standing between us and a flood of perfect-fit clients.

Such as:

  • Worrying what people might think of us and our message.
  • Knowing exactly what to say.
  • A lack of time, tools and budget.
  • Not having a large audience of relevant people.
  • Not feeling comfortable in the spotlight.

As someone who grew up feeling shy, and is prone to overthinking, I understand how these factors can hold you back.

SIDE NOTE: A client once told me that while there are kick-ass coaches out there, my style is more of a soft slipper to your backside. So, here’s the slipper…

But, if you allow these limiting beliefs and excuses (because that’s what they really are) to hold you back from promoting your business, you are being selfish!

There are people out there who are suffering. And they need your help.

They are feeling stuck, lost, alone, frustrated and overwhelmed. They feel they have lost their purpose. That they have nothing good or beautiful in their lives.

They are looking for hope and support. And if you are not visible to them, they won’t get this and instead will remain stuck and miserable.

I KNOW this is not what you want for them.

So, you need to decide, right now, that you are going to challenge yourself to think differently, get visible, and start having more of the impact that you know you can have.

OK. Lecture over ; )

It’s time to roll up your sleeves and start challenging these thoughts so you can confidently get visible, attract clients, and feel proud of the success you’ve created for yourself and your clients. Ready?

Unlocking Your Visibility Confidence with One Question

While studying for my Mindset Coach certification, I discovered the wonderful work of a woman called Byron Katie.

She believes that our problems start and end with ourselves. And that when we take responsibility for our beliefs and judgments, we can start to change them.

I think it’s empowering to know that at any moment, we have the power to choose better thoughts.

And that when we do, we experience more positive emotions. And these allow us to take more of the right actions and enjoy better results.

Happy days – literally!

All we need to do is catch our negative thoughts, so we can challenge these rationally.

I say ‘all’ with my tongue in my cheek because this is not easy, especially at first.

Many of our thoughts, limiting beliefs and excuses have been around for so long, we have often come to believe that they are facts.

For example, here is a limiting belief I hear often: “Other experts are already sharing so much great content. There is no room for me. I’d just be saying what has already been said. And probably not as well. I don’t want to waste my time and everyone else's. So I’ll say quiet.”

It can feel like it’s a fact.

But it’s not.

The way to sort the fact from the fiction is to ask one question: “Is this true?”

At first, you may be tempted to say: “Yes!”. If so, probe a little deeper. “Is this absolutely true?”, “How can you be so sure?”.

Do you know for a fact, that every life coach, for example, is saying exactly what you would and saying it better? Of course not. Are they saying it to your exact tribe? Maybe, maybe not.

Just like in a courtroom, if there is room for ‘reasonable doubt’, bingo! You’ve caught yourself a negative thought/limiting belief.

Now the fun can begin ... because if that isn’t the truth, then what is?

Finding the Real Truth

Continuing with the above example, what might be a more accurate thought?

It could be something like:

“There are people out there sharing great advice. But I also have value to share with my audience. And they deserve my help and guidance. It might be just what they need to hear today to feel better about themselves and their situation and have a better outcome.

“When they recognise I have the knowledge to help, my ideal clients will feel more comfortable coming to me for help. And I can use my skills to help them. In the process of helping them, I'll build my business and feel proud of the difference I am making.”

Next, for your new truth to make a lasting difference, it needs to be put to the test!

Reality check. What I’m sharing with you here isn’t new or unique. Thousands of other thought leaders talk about mindset and limiting beliefs. But are you rolling your eyes at me for talking about this subject too? If you’ve read this far, I suspect not. Use this example to remind yourself that there is always room for your views, opinions, stories and ideas.

Testing Your New Belief

Once you have chosen a better and more accurate thought, it’s time to turn it into an empowering belief.

You’ll do this by looking for the evidence. You know that your old thought wasn’t true. But is your new one? Can you find evidence to support it?

If your new truth is what I’ve outlined above, for example, take each point and look for proof that this is true:

  • Do you have something to share that would help your dream client today?
  • If you do so, would you feel proud of taking the initiative to help them?
  • When they consume your content, what is their most likely response?
  • When you are sharing value with your audience, would that make them more likely to approach you for further help?

Once you have tested and proven your new empowering truth. The next step is to move into action. So you can further prove to yourself that your previous thought was holding you back, and is no longer needed.

Moving into Action

What concrete steps can you take this week to put your empowering truth to work?

One of Byron Katie’s questions that I frequently use with my clients (and myself) is: “If I didn’t have this thought, who would I be and what would I do?”

If you were no longer held back my your original limiting belief, what would you do differently? Knowing the answer to this can make it easier to find your next best steps.

If you didn’t think that everything you’d like to share with your audience had already been said, what would you do?

Most probably, get out there and start sharing value!

What would be your steps for doing that? Perhaps:

  • Brainstorm topics you’d like to share
  • Decide what you want to share first and how
  • Create a draft of your content
  • Refine your draft and share it
  • Review what went well and how your audience responded
  • Decide what to share next

The best antidote to fear is action. Once you move into action, you can focus on building momentum and taking your next step. When you are moving forward, you have no need to keep looking sideways or backwards.

Your Steps in Summary

  • Find your limiting beliefs / negative thoughts
  • Ask: Is this true?
  • Choose a more accurate thought
  • Find the evidence to turn this into an empowering truth
  • Make a simple action plan to guide your next steps
  • Recognise and celebrate your progress

The first time you do this, you may find it takes a bit of time. But once you’ve followed this process a few times, it will start to become easy and natural.

Soon become an expert at spotting limiting beliefs. And when you do, you'll naturally challenge and change these so they don’t stand in your way.

It’s an empowering process! And I can't wait to see what you'll achieve once you are armed with a series of empowering truths instead of limiting beliefs!

Oh those limiting beliefs! Love your question “Is it true?” A similar question I ask myself is “What else could be true?”
