The Unseen Virtues of Cognitive Biases

Cognitive biases, those intriguing quirks in our thinking that psychologists often caution us about, are not always the adversaries they are portrayed to be. They can, in fact, be the unsung heroes of our psychological toolkit, equipping us to navigate a complex world with more finesse than we might realize.

Consider the optimism bias that tints our future expectations with hopeful hues. Optimism is not merely a product of our imagination but a crucial component of human resilience, aiding us in traversing uncertainty and adversity.

Preconceptions like these can lead us astray, but they also bind us to our goals, encourage our perseverance, and benefit relationships by smoothing the rough edges of reality. As Nietzsche might suggest, if we saw the world exactly as it is, we might find it unbearable. Our prejudices are a necessary veil that protects us from the paralyzing grip of existential angst.

Seen in this way, prejudices are not simply flaws in our thinking but adaptive quirks that have evolved to enable us to survive physically, emotionally, and socially. They are like brushstrokes in the impressionistic art of our perceptions, providing just enough distortion to keep the picture both beautiful and bearable.

Excellent. ¿That means that in the near future we will be useful to add "prejudice capacity" to AI?
