Berries are among the healthiest foods on the planet. They’re delicious, nutritious, and provide a number of impressive health benefits.

From a botanical point of view; it is fascinating to know that raspberries, strawberries and blackberries are not actually berries, whereas tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and even bananas can be correctly called berries. By the way, the largest berries are actually pumpkins!

In botany, a berry is a fleshy fruit  produced from a single flower containing one ovary, blueberries for instance are a perfect example.

Here are some amazing facts about berries:

- Berries are available in all shapes and colors.

- Raspberries can range from red and black to purple, yellow, and golden.. 

- Blueberries are one of the only foods that are truly naturally blue in color and people have been eating blueberries for more than 13,000 years.

- The word berry comes from the old english berie, which originally meant grape.

- Several native grape-shaped fruits took on the berry suffix: blueberry and raspberry for instance.

- There is a museum in Wepion in Belgium just for strawberries.

- In medieval times, strawberries were served at important gatherings to bring peace & prosperity.

There's literally a whole world of berries out there that is untapped and unknown to many. These exquisite berries are delectable, filled with nutrients and are waiting to be let into grocery stores and kitchens.
