The Veterans' Foundation - the story so far

The Veterans' Foundation - the story so far

The Veterans' Foundation was founded about 4 years ago by Major General David Shaw CBE to help UK military veterans in need. David very kindly invited me to become Chairman of the charity - at the time I asked him why and he replied for my "commercial skills". Since then we have developed the most rewarding working relationship - we had no idea how successful the Foundation would become.

David and I had spotted that a lot of smaller military charities in the UK were doing great work, based around very passionate founders who put in huge efforts for very little financial reward. The problem that these smaller organisations faced was raising funds, so the Veterans' Foundation stepped in to do this.

Being associated with it since the start is one of the proudest things that I've done in my life - far more rewarding and interesting than my business career, despite the fact that there is no financial gain for me. So far we’ve granted £4.6m to about 275 organisations helping veterans in need.  In calendar 2021 we expect to award a further £5m in grants.

We've just published our impact Report for the last year - you can read it here.
