Vibrant Hope: Jesus is the Fulfilment

Vibrant Hope: Jesus is the Fulfilment

Sunday 2024/12/08

Luke 24:44 (NIV) “He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’”

In this verse, Jesus is speaking to His disciples after His resurrection. He emphasizes the necessity of fulfilling the Scriptures concerning Him. The “Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms” represents the entirety of the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament). This verse highlights the importance of understanding how Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection were foretold in Scripture, affirming the continuity between the Old and New Testaments.

Related Scriptures

Matthew 5:17: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”

John 5:39: “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me.”

Acts 3:18: “But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.”

Application

  • Understanding Scripture: As Christians, we should strive to understand the entirety of the Bible and how it points to Jesus. This requires regular reading and study of both the Old and New Testaments.
  • Faith in Fulfillment: We can find assurance in our faith, knowing that God’s promises are fulfilled in Christ. This can encourage us during times of doubt or struggle.
  • Sharing the Gospel: Just as Jesus explained how He fulfilled Scripture, we can share this message with others, helping them see how Jesus is central to God’s plan for salvation.
  • Living Out His Teachings: Understanding that Jesus fulfilled the law encourages us to live according to His teachings, recognizing that our relationship with God is rooted in grace rather than legalism.

Prayer Points

  • For Understanding: Pray for a deeper understanding of Scripture and how it reveals Christ. “Lord, help me to see Your truth in every part of Your Word and to understand how it points to Jesus.”
  • For Faith: Pray for increased faith in God’s promises and their fulfillment through Jesus. “Father, strengthen my faith as I trust in Your promises fulfilled in Christ.”
  • For Evangelism: Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel and explain how Jesus fulfills the Scriptures. “Lord, give me boldness and wisdom to share Your Word with others, showing them how Jesus is the fulfilment of all things.”
  • For Living out His Teachings: Pray for guidance in living according to Christ’s teachings. “Holy Spirit, guide my actions and words so that I may reflect Christ in my daily life.”
  • For Spiritual Growth: Pray for growth in your relationship with God through His Word. “God, draw me closer to You as I study Your Word, and help me to grow in my relationship with You.”

Feel free to adapt these elements based on your specific context or needs!
