Virtual life isn't the same, but there are some upsides...
Over the six months I have probably appeared at more speaking events around the world and been on more podcasts than I have in the previous 24 months combined. I thought I would take stock and share some of the recorded events with you in today's Learn With Leena newsletter. Please do subscribe for more.
SPEECHES/INTERVIEWS
I spoke to Chief Learning Officer Tim Munden for a conversation on “The Importance of Self-Care” to mark World Mental Health Day on 10th October.
Unilever Future Leaders League
The advice I wish I'd been given when I was young
I spoke at Unilever's first virtual Future Leaders League event. Every year I look forward to this wonderful event, which sees young people from around the world competing to win the coveted first-place prize for their brilliant business ideas. Our Future Leader events are usually a Big Deal, with loads of energy, loud music and a lot of Bollywood dancing from me (and anyone else I can get up on stage with me)!
This time, our FLL team put SO MUCH energy and effort into making the virtual event just as glitzy and fun. And although it lost a little of the glamour (a computer screen doesn't have quite the same feel to it), it lost absolutely none of the passion and inspiration. You can watch my full interview here: (starts about 10mins in)
HerRising 2020 Closing Address
I got up early (not my best time of the day!) to speak to women in India who wish to rise in their career (and to share my advice that they try to be “purpose-led and future-fit”).
LinkedIn Learning Summit
In this fireside chat moderated by Teuila Hanson, I shared my perspectives on the future of learning, resilience, and how to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
WPP
I spoke to Jacqui Canney as part of WPP's #WorldMentalHealthDay program. We talked about the importance of self-care and looking after your mental health and I explained why I sometimes go and cry in the loo at Unilever. Listen to find out!
Coacharya
This time I was speaking with old friend and ex-colleague, Harish Devarajan. We had an informal chat about being a woman in business, how we can build more inclusive, equitable businesses, and why I am a passionate advocate for recreating the career pathways for men and women.
(Steve Correa put together a wonderful round up of our conversation if you would rather read a précis)
Millennium Mams
I had a great chat with Rachna Prasad and answered questions from viewers on the Millennium Mams (a Kolkata-based Not For Profit creating financial awareness and literacy amongst women) video conference.
PANEL DISCUSSIONS
I have been on so many panels this year. I love doing them so it has been a real blessing! These are the ones I have been able to find recordings of.
UN Global Compact
Build Back Better: Designing A Future That Leaves No One Behind
Hosted by the B Team, moderated by Halla Tómasdóttir, with Silvia Dias Lagnado, Sustainable Growth Officer, Natura &Co; Hiro Mizuno, B Team Leader; Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom; and Danny Sriskandarajah, CEO, Oxfam GB
Human Rights and Development: Business Action to Leave No One Behind
As businesses, we all have the power – as buyers, employers and producers – to significantly contribute to poverty alleviation in our supply chains and workplaces, and contribute to the advancement of the SDGs.
PODCASTS
Wisdom from the top with Guy Raz. How Covid-19 is the greatest challenge of my professional career.
Impact20: The National Conversation. I joined presenters Shevaun Haviland and Edie Lush, and guest Bejay Mulenga (a brilliant entrepreneur) to discuss future-proofing the UK workforce in a period of global uncertainty.
And finally...
I spoke to Harvard Business Review about How to Be Brave (and Other Career Advice) in Uncertain Times
I think that is everything that is available as recordings so far! Let me know if you spot anything I've missed.
Thank you so much for the time and effort that so many people have put into hosting these events over the last few months. They have been a wonderful way to connect with people around the world. And thank you to anyone who attended, watched, listened – knowing you are out there makes it all worthwhile.
See you again for a future Learn With Leena Newsletter. Please make sure you subscribe if you want to get alerted when the next one comes out.
