Visualizing Your Way to Public Speaking Success
I’m fortunate that I enjoy public speaking. For me, it started in high school when I joined the speech and debate team. I particularly excelled in the extemporaneous speaking competitions, but overall, the biggest value add was getting me over the fear of public speaking. Over the years I’ve strived to further develop this skill and many of the tips one comes across in this endeavor are spot on. I came across this article from the Harvard Division of Continuing Education and it’s a great start at developing a solid foundation toward better public speaking.
However, over the last several years I’ve realized two specific strategies in my preparation process that are rarely discussed at length: the power of visualization and understanding the right objective of your public speaking efforts. Understanding and properly implementing these two tactics have been foundational to my success and I hope to effectively describe here how you can implement and benefit from these as well.
