Vol. 3, Issue 3. AFEA & JAD Research and Opportunity Bulletin, March 2024
Dear AFEA Community,
As the first week of March marks International Women's Day 2025 , Africa witnessed a beehive of regional policy discussions on how African women and girls yearn for an optimistic future where they can secure better jobs, stay healthier, and become more educated to care for their families’ socioeconomic development trajectory. For example, the World Bank’s latest Women, Business, and the Law report highlights that Sub-Saharan Africa continues to advance legal gender gap reforms in the face of yawning gaps between laws on paper and the reality on the ground. For instance, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographics (SWEDD) project brings together girls to share experiences and learn life skills. In addition, the African Women-led non-profit organization, Association for the Advancement of African Women Economists (AAAWE) continues to build capacities and enhance African women economists' scholarships. Please read on to learn about the many other activities being implemented or planned by AFRICAN FINANCE AND ECONOMIC ASSOCIATION (AFEA) and its community members.
