Exploring the Future of VR Input Devices, Adoption Rates, Profitability, and Scalability
Virtuix has commenced the delivery of its Omni One beta units to early adopters, marking a significant milestone for its Omni One product. Priced at $2,595 or available through a $65 monthly payment plan, the company aims to distribute over 1,000 units by the close of 2023 and an additional 8,000 units to investors by Q1 2024. Omni One preorders are set to become accessible to the general public in late 2023, followed by shipments starting in Q2 2024. This progress follows a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised $4.5 million, prompting the company to conclude the campaign ahead of schedule on August 10th. Virtuix's Founder and CEO, Jan Goetgeluk, highlighted the significance of the Omni One in enabling movement-based VR experiences, underscoring its role as an omni-directional treadmill that enhances VR immersion and interaction.
Meta Quest 3 shows off a sleek new design
An unauthorized unboxing video of the Meta Quest 3 has emerged, offering a closer look at the headset's redesigned aesthetics. While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, an individual named @ZGFTECH shared a video unveiling the new headset, revealing its design elements beyond the earlier promotional images. Notably, the Quest 3 boasts a slimmer profile compared to its predecessor, the Oculus Quest 2, attributed to its pancake lenses and resulting in a more streamlined appearance. The video highlights the distinctive flexible mesh surrounding the lenses and the three front-facing sensors. The redesigned Quest 3 controllers take cues from the Quest Pro's, emphasizing ergonomics and incorporating Tru Touch haptics, though the integrated cameras have been omitted in favor of integrated sensors and predictive AI for tracking. While Meta has indicated a starting price of $500 for the Quest 3, additional specifics and an official release date are anticipated to be revealed at the upcoming Meta Connect event on September 27 and 28.
