W.A.Drew's praised play now becomes a novel too!

W. A. Drew's richly atmospheric, witty and moving, critically praised play Memorial Day, set to preview in London in the autumn, is soon to become a full-length novel to be published in the fall by Bedfords Books.

Set in 2010 in a small New England town near the Coast of Maine, like the bestseller Peyton Place, Drew's novel centres on the complex lives of local folk. Mary, a high school principal, Sara a librarian and Audre a young African American working at the local diner, spend the evening of Memorial Day together at the cottage of the elderly Martha Lockhart - a well known poet. What starts as a simple supper party soon becomes a time of secrets, lies and revelations, as their past and present loves, hates, prejudices, and shocking untold stories, are slowly brought to light.

Described as "totally superb", "profoundly moving" and "beautifully realised", Memorial Day is a tale not easily forgotten.

Praised by John McGrath, Founding Director of The National Theatre Wales, for the “resonant poetic style” and “affecting and memorable,” quality of his early play "Icicles in the Trees", W.A. Drew has subsequently written over 40 other plays and 8 novels. In 1995, along with Lord Attenborough, Sir Ridley Scott, Sir David Frost and Sir Bob Geldof, he was awarded an International Fellowship at the House of Lords for his contribution to the media industries.
