Wallem Seafarer Series: Captain Sanjay Ghosh
Name: Capt. Sanjay Ghosh
Nationality: Indian
Role: Master Mariner
My life at sea began over three decades ago when I joined Wallem’s Direct Entry Cadet Programme; I had the youthful ambition to travel around the world and grab hold of the experiences that came my way. Since then, I’ve been lucky to work both at sea and onshore which has given me a wider understanding of the shipping industry.
Wallem has given me several career opportunities including becoming a Ships' Captain, training to be a Superintendent, and then becoming a Marine Superintendent, where I was responsible for 23 oil and chemical tankers.
Looking back, having started my career as a Deck Cadet, rising to a Master onboard, and then stepping ashore in an office role has truly been fulfilling. Wallem has supported me immensely in achieving my professional goals through its training programmes, well-defined company policies, and appraisal system.
Wallem also excels in crew wellbeing, sending personalised celebratory wishes as well as organising events and sporting activities. In addition, the internet access provided onboard ensures those at sea remain connected with families, which is an important part of seafarer welfare.
When I consider my career, I would whole heartedly recommend a life at sea. Yes, being away from family can be difficult; then again, all good things in life come with challenges.
