WANT A KILLER IDEA? PLAY THE RIGHT GAMES!

Ever wondered how ideas HIT us?

  • On its own, from our intuition.
  • In a conversation, or from what we read/see/hear/feel.
  • When we see someone doing something, we think we can do a much better job, or if there's a gap.

What happens to these ideas?

They go through three phases in a normal mind.

  1. At the first instance, your mind goes: "This is a nonsense idea. Horrible. Get out of here."
  2. Six months later, someone developed something similar to the idea. "Oh, it is a great idea, but it won't work here."
  3. 3. One year later, someone made a success of that very idea you dismissed. "Hey, I ALWAYS knew it was a good idea!."

The fact is that you never know if an idea is good until you act on it.

Several external factors are at play, but only one internal hurdle to cross is self-doubt.

Only when that internal battle is won do you become stronger enough to work on that idea and give it some life and shape.

As leaders, overcoming this internal hurdle is often the key to turning an idea into reality.

How does one remain open to new ideas and select something to experiment on?

By opening up channels and allowing the idea to pass through us WITHOUT ANY JUDGMENT.

And when something clicks, to immediately act on it.

One such way is to start the day or any session with a mind-game exercise.

Here is one I played last week at an ASCENT retreat at the start of my facilitation exercise on B2B growth through Engineered word of mouth.

Objective: Who will build the highest structure with the given equipment?

Equipment: A4 sheets of paper, sticky tape (Cello tape) and scissors.

Constraint: Time. Four minutes was the allotted time.

What happened?

  • Each team approached it differently, as you can see from the images.
  • Only two teams asked for additional support, in terms of equipment or ideas.
  • Only one team used whatever was on the table, as the rules never specified what COULD NOT be used!
  • Each team won as the thought processes were different.
  • Each team was CHEERING the other and encouraging the whole group.



What do we learn? What about the answer?

There is never one single answer to a problem.

By letting go of judgment, we open ourselves to multiple answers.

Ask, and it shall be provided.

Solve a challenge and your brain is primed to receive and act on new ideas.

Be open to changing track midway!

Very helpful one Praveen Sir. Rightly mentioned without Try of plucking of lemon, you cannot get Lemon juice. Some internal factors like laziness, Procrastination to the next day. With Consistent action and performance,we can able to achieve our Goals and Targets
