Salespeople regularly have to look scary, uncomfortable situations in the face and decide to push forward anyways. If you want a promotion and you know you deserve it, level-up and go get it. Do what you have to do. Ask for advice from whomever you need to ask advice from. Find a mentor who’s done it before you.
But if you REALLY, TRULY want to get the most of what your life has to offer you (yeah, not this life, YOUR LIFE!), you’d better stop being so afraid to go get it.
Regularly reach out to people you don't know and start building relationships.
Often times, it’s those with the most relationships that get the most opportunities.
Want to know how sales people build these relationships with people? By looking for ways to connect on a personal level so the person they're reaching out to able to humanize the interaction.
Social media makes it easy to connect with people but it’s hard to develop a genuine relationship. The key I've found to developing genuine relationships (both online and off) is by creating a bridge between who you are and who they are.
Take time to genuinely care about who they are, what they do and focusing on what they care about. The more you do it, the better you’ll be at it, and the quicker you’ll be able to connect with people on a genuine level.
Be a problem solver.
Yes, the job of a salesperson is to sell a product or service (or both). But a salespersons real job is to help businesses and employees of said businesses solve a problem that *their* company has the perfect solution for.
