We Got Bigger

Dear Reader,

The first step to success is to have the right mindset.

We often blame others for our shortcomings, but the truth is that we are the ones who hold ourselves back. Think about how many times you've said, "I want to do this, but I don't have time." or "I want to build my brand, but I don't know how." or "I want to have followers, but I'm scared to post."

Instead of making excuses, we need to shift our mindset from "but" to "and."

For example, instead of saying, "I want to have 5,000 followers, but I don't have time," say, "I want to have 5,000 followers, and I will make time to post quality content every week."

Instead of saying, "I want to get a job, but I don't want to network," say, "I want to get a job, and I will reach out to people in my industry and attend industry events."

I know this is easier said than done, but it's important to remember that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I'm living proof of that.

In 2022, I decided to take LinkedIn seriously. I started posting valuable content on a regular basis, and I networked with people in my industry, I put myself out there. Within a few months, I got my first job on LinkedIn, a $250/month gig to manage a CEO’s profile.

Guess what? I had less than 3000 followers then.

This is to show that it is the visible brand that gets the gig, not necessarily the best one. People can’t patronize or connect with you if they don’t know you.

Dear reader, here is what I need you to do:

  • Believe in yourself. You are capable of anything you set your mind to.
  • Be prepared for challenges. There will be times when you feel like giving up, but don't let that stop you. You can take a break and come back.
  • Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone is on their own journey.
  • Focus on providing value and marketing yourself. People will only follow you if you have something valuable to offer them, and you can only get gigs if you market yourself.
  • Be consistent. The key to success is consistency. Post quality content on a regular basis, and network with people in your industry.

Remember, we can’t find out how our story ends if we never finish the race.
