We live in the era of inefficiency
A study made by Microsoft reveals that from the year 2020 we spend 3 times more in meetings leading to work outside the laboral hours just to catch up to the time spent in meetings.
That meeting could've been an email
Another 2016 investigation proved that "white collar" workers had so much meetings and email reading that many times they had to reach home to actually to the "most critical tasks".
In 2022 meetings sky rocket with a 153% compared to 2020.
Sometimes looks like the workers spends more time talking about work than doing actual work - Jared Spataro
But why I put this on the table in an economic "newsleeter".
Well, simple, this inefficienci proves that market is saturated with actual useless tasks that don't provide value.
In software developmente we work a lot with Conway's Law inspired organizational architecture, focused on value delivery.
But if so many people are wasting time. Who is providing the value?
Job is done most of the time by trial and error, by speaking about ideas with colleges, about changes made straight in the system where they are needed without the need to send an email for validation. That is the biggest problem with the economical situation in Europe (mostly) and the U.S.A. In the western industry.
To much bureaucracy and to many people need to "validate they position" meaning that people whom doesn't know anything about the job done, need to validate the solution.

Now, this is a huge set back for the economic background of a highly competitive industry having in mind the huge problems we have with the Chiness efficiency. They give products with way bigger quality for a lot of less costs.
This was a huge problem for Volkswagen's CEO, Oliver Blume. He made a trip to continental China last week to see how the market is evolving there. He came back very scared,
We are not longer competitive as a brand
Costs in China are bastly inferior compared to Europe's, bureaucracy is way less, and innovation is rewarded.
We have to be brave and honest enough to throw things overboard that are being duplicated within the company or that are simply ballast that we do not need to obtain good results.-Gunnar Kilian head of HHRR
VW's CEOalready said that until 2030 they will get rid of 30% of their workforce . Also they search to eliminate all "duplicated" responsabilities.
Dacia already said they will dismiss 11.000 workers, for now going with a "voluntary dismissals" giving rewards and discounts to the workers that adds up to $40.000.
We live in a Europe where everything is taxed and controled. The problem is that doesn't allow innovation and rising companies or projects, since the investment and costs are too high. This deliveres very complex existing companies, since all the organizational "history" that have behind did not forced the need to simplify processes and architecture.
So ideas or new companies with simplified structure and a more value focused processes can't compete with the "big guns" in the market. What the heck? They can't even compete with the taxes.
So yes, Europe is falling, and we are paying for it.
