Are we ready for VR-based life?

This blog contains a section of a podcast — Web3 Digital Marketing Entrepreneur and the opinion of the host is added after that.

Jeffrey Boopathy : So recently, this virtual thing has become a great trend, I could say, for all those people out there. I mean, considering the economy is going down and all, still, people are so interested in pushing the $1,500 VR headsets and a lot of technologies out there. But how do you think this would proceed? Because before going into the context, I think that people should understand whether this will be worth listening to in 2023 or in the middle of 2023, anytime they’re listening to this. So how do you think they will proceed with the VR stuff?

Sean Boyle : Yeah, I mean, I only think it’s going to get stronger. Right. It’s very ironic, Jeff because right now I’m not that big a believer in the Metaverse and like all the technology and stuff that comes with it. And you look at Facebook, right, because they lost billions of dollars in their earnings and really just lost a lot of profit because they were investing in this technology that people weren’t really ready for yet. The thing with virtual technology is that there needs to be a time and a place for it. And I think the context in which businesses like Facebook or Meta at this point and other Instagram and Google are integrating this, there needs to be a certain context.

Host’s Opinion:

Recently there was a stat which went viral from a tweet mentioning that Meta Quest 2 did 14.8 million units in sales figures. Though it was from an employee in a market research company the tweet was not backed by any data. But from my experience in watching Instagram and other social platforms in December, I found that a lot of people presented Meta Quest 2 headset as Christmas presents so we know that there was some increase in the sales figure.

This stat alone cannot state that people are ready for a VR-based life because when Meta changed its branding and vision for the next decade it did not just focus on the sales figure of selling its VR headsets but rather to make an impact in each and every industry. One of the main applications of VR I often see is healthcare. There are predictions in other industries which talk about how Metaverse application could bring in a Billion or sometimes a Trillion Dollar industry. But it’s a long way to achieve that.

What do you think?

Can you live in a full-on VR headset life for more than 8 hours?
