We Are the Stories We Tell Ourselves
We scroll through feeds, social media posts filled with perfectly curated lives, wondering if our own lives will ever measure up to that. But what if the most important story isn't someone else's highlight reel or a social media post? What if it's the one whispering within you, the story you tell yourself every day?
We are nothing but the stories that we tell ourselves, about ourselves, and believe. Everyone has a story to tell. This simple truth holds immense power over our lives. The stories we weave in our minds shape our identities, influence our decisions, and ultimately determine the course of our lives.
The truth is, we are all authors. Each one of us has a story to tell. We draft our own personal stories that shape our perception of ourselves, our capabilities, and our potential. These stories are based upon our upbringing, our childhood, our culture, our family, our religion, our education. These stories become the internal GPS guiding our choices and influencing our actions.
Let’s take a few examples.
Take, for example, the story of Thomas Edison. Most of us know him as the inventor of the light bulb, but his journey was filled with failures. He famously said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Edison’s story about himself was one of perseverance and innovation, not defeat. This story that he told himself fueled his relentless pursuit of success.
Similarly, consider J.K. Rowling, the author of the beloved Harry Potter series. Before she became one of the best-selling authors of all time, she faced numerous rejections from publishers. If she had told herself that she was not a good writer or that her story was not worth sharing, we would have never experienced the magical world of Hogwarts. Instead, she believed in her story and in her ability to tell it, and the rest is history.
Now, our personal stories may not be as grand as those of Edison or Rowling. I am here to tell you that OUR STORIES ARE IMPORTANT. OUR STORIES MATTER. Why? Because we live our lives based on these stories, the way we think about ourselves.
But my question to you is, what have you been taught? That you are a powerless victim of circumstances or that you are a powerful creator of your own life? Because your whole life is based on this story.

So, isn’t it time for us to wake up to our own stories? Our stories are IMPORTANT because they are changing.
We have the power to change the narrative in our heads, we have the power to change the script of our story.
From "I can't" to "I'm learning." Think of the limiting stories you tell yourself. "I'm not good at public speaking," or "I'm not qualified enough for that promotion." Or "I can’t manage things" or "I’m too fat.. too thin." These narratives, while seemingly harmless, can become self-fulfilling prophecies.
Instead, rewrite your script. Replace "can't" with "learning" or "growing." Focus on the journey, not just the destination. Celebrate small wins and acknowledge your efforts. Instead of saying "I am not good enough," say "I am learning and growing."
The stories we tell ourselves aren't just whispers in the mind. They ripple outward. They influence how we show up in the world.
A story of courage inspires others to take risks. A story of resilience demonstrates the power to overcome challenges. When we rewrite our limiting stories, we not only empower ourselves but also inspire those around us.
So, what’s your story?
Take a moment to reflect on the internal narrative you create. Is it one of possibility or is it one of limitation?
And let me tell you, no matter what your story is today, you have the power to change it and thereby change the course of your life.
EVERYONE HAS A STORY. EVERY STORY MATTERS. WHY NOT MAKE IT INSPIRING???
