Wedding Can Be Heavy On Pocket - HELP MANAGING IT!

Weddings In Asia (especially India & Pakistan) tend to be massive with hundreds or thousands of guests and different events of the wedding spanned over few days (atleast). That means TONS of Money 💷 to spend on!

So, I had my wedding as well in last month, which was great and fun, but there was lot of money involved as well. We tried to reduce some of our expenses and save some money by doing thorough planning, which i am going to share with you as how to go about it if you are planning your wedding soon! 👇

So here are the tips!

[1] Book venues & vendors well in advance ⛺

Everybody wants confirmed bookings rather than fighting for work in the peak season. Plan in advance and do yourself (and your money) a favour. We did this and booked the place 3 months earlier and got it atleast on 50% lower price.


[2] Try to have a weekday function 🗓

We all know it - everything is less expensive on a weekday. If you don’t mind, go for it. My wedding was on weekdays, so that saved some money.


[3] Do events in Afternoon than Night🗓

We know it may not be possible to schedule lots of events in afternoon, but if possible do that. Personal experience of booking venues suggests that there is lot of cost difference between day and night.


[4] Reduce use of Outside Venues

If possible and if you have your own good place or some other place you can easily arrange without spending a lot, go for it, rather than booking outside venues, which are quite costly. We did lots of wedding functions at home because we had a great space which are decorated for wedding.


[5] Trim the guest list (to the extent possible) 👨 👩 👧 👦

Depends on you and your family, but some people are limiting the number of guests which means reduced expense in terms of booking smaller venue, hiring vendors for less and spending less on Food. I couldn't go for it, but it is always a choice.


[6] Go for E-invites 📲

Haven’t you heard? The world is going green. Ditch the hefty invites and save some bucks. Personal experience, sending invites over whats app and calling individuals rather than old-school method of going to each city and giving cards to every guest.


[7] Bring arrangements on Paper ✍

Make sure you get it written when you are dealing with any vendor like Venue manager, Photographer, Caters, etc. If not written, people can just change at any time and not do the things that are agreed and ask for extra money. We faced this in venue bookings whereby we had to show him what was agreed and written.

[8] Shop for outfits in the off-season 🤵

Clothes are a BIG expense. Just avoid the last-minute rush and try to buy your outfit in advance and during a sale. Think two-fold as clothes must be killing in wedding as well as they should have utility beyond wedding. Some people may prefer designer clothes, I was not into that.


[9] Food

The second most expense after Venue is food, so it is important to plan for it very well. Food needs to be tasty and at the same time, not too heavy on the pocket.


[10] Transportation

Fuel is so expensive these days and hence transportation can be a big expense. This is mainly incurred at the time of Baarat, or events scheduled away from home where all guests need to go by travelling. Consider booking buses, vens or some other sort of big transport where most people can go economically.
