MALDIVES: The largest private island in the Maldives, Ithaafushi “offers all the Kim Kardashian West vibes you don’t want to miss” (Forbes). It’s just a short boat ride from the main Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi Resort and “guests can be escorted directly via a 40-minute ride on the resort’s Princess yachts or via a 15-minute seaplane flight” (Country & Town House). As well as snorkelling and diving, guests “can ask to be marooned for a day on a nearby private sandbank” (Travel + Leisure) and there’s even a “dedicated children’s play area and pool — for the luckiest kids alive” (The Points Guy). SPAIN: "A glamorously classic restoration of a true Madrid landmark" is how Harpers Bazaar describes the opening of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid. The culmination of a three-year renovation project, Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz and the French designer duo Gilles & Boissier collaborated on the new design, which "preserves the striking Belle Époque character of the original building" (Forbes), established by Cesar Ritz himself 110 years ago. The "lavish spa" (Forbes) includes a heated indoor swimming pool, steam room and fitness centre. Its "generous proximity to the Prado and Thyssen museums" makes it, "a haven at the heart of things" - Harpers Bazaar. This hotly anticipated new opening, along with the first Four Seasons in Spain - launched in September last year - firmly puts Madrid on the luxury hotels map.
