Week 89: Let’s Talk AI Productivity Tools
Let’s talk productivity and AI.
(Plus it’s the start of the year so it’s perfect timing.)
We’ve all seen the rise of ChatGPT last year and the launch of hundreds of apps aiming to use AI in one way or the other.
And the entire space has come to one conclusion.
AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we work.
This is not just about enhancing note-taking processes or summarizing complex documents with ease. It's not just about doing things faster; it's about doing them smarter.
And when you do things smarter, you become more efficient saving you the resources so that you can be more effective in what you do.
Here’s the thing.
Not every app out there is going to help you.
Most of it is just a rehash and worse, a lot of the tools we’ve seen are severely limited.
So, today let’s talk about setting criteria for selecting the best AI tools for your needs.
For the purposes of not writing you an essay, we’ve narrowed it down to 5 things:
1️⃣ Functionality and Relevance to Your User Flow
If you’re buying the tool for the sake of having the coolest AI app, don’t.
Onboarding an AI tool starts with relevance, is it relevant enough for your needs? Is the app able to account for you to scale in the future?
2️⃣ Ease of Use
Not a lot of these apps are easy to use, so try a demo first.
However, take it a step further and get your team to try it. If everyone can’t figure it out in a week, it’s time to migrate.

3️⃣ Reliability
AI is still in its ‘infancy’ so reliability is not always its strong suit. Even people who use ChatGPT will notice a couple of nuisances here and there.
So ask around, is this app stable and reliable enough for my organization to use it?
4️⃣ Privacy
Read about their privacy policy! You want to make sure that you also protect your interests.
And the fifth?
5️⃣ Pricing - this is always going to be relevant. You can run the argument that “it’s going to save me X amount of dollars in the long run!” But the thing is, there could always be something that’s better for your budget.
Take, for instance, the popular platform Notion, they released a Notion AI which is incredibly helpful if you need support getting a couple of words down. However, it’s not generally what you would use if you were into intensive writing.
But, if you just need a little bit of power to spruce up your knowledge repository on Notion, it’s a great thing to have.
There is a balance between what you want to spend on and how relevant it is to your organization.
So remember to choose your AI productivity apps wisely.
…while it’s still the beginning of the year and you still have a chance to switch things up. :)
