The Weekend Life Raft

The Weekend Life Raft

Welcome back, it’s great to see you here for another Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive as we wrap up the week. I hope this month has been treating you well, and I hope you’re feeling refreshed ahead of the weekend we have coming up.

I know usually it’s about this point in the week where people are ready to call it quits on the week. The weekend is coming up, you probably have some fun plans to look forward to, and hopefully, you’re able to look back on the week fondly and give yourself a pat on the back for all the progress you’ve made on your goals for the month and the year.

What I want to talk about today, or rather what I want to stress to you, is the importance of going into the weekend feeling refreshed rather than looking at the weekend as a life raft keeping you afloat.

Trust me, I enjoy my weekends. I’m not one of those guys you’ll hear advocating for working 7 days a week or anything like that. I don’t even want to be at work 7 days a week. I like my time with my family just as much as the next guy.

That’s why you need to make sure that by the time the weekend comes around, you’re not crawling or limping your way home on Friday just for 48 hours to recharge.

That model, it isn’t sustainable. You can’t be using the two days over the weekend like life rafts to keep you going throughout the week. Because lets be honest with ourselves, if all the weekends are to you is ‘life rafts’ then chances are you aren’t even enjoying them to the fullest because Sunday you’re already beginning to dread the week ahead.

So how do we get to the weekend without feeling drained? What does that look like? Well I’ll tell you. It starts with having fun at work, and I wrote a blog about this recently. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend you do. It’s all about how having fun at work is the ultimate x-factor for you and your team.

As the old saying goes, if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.

Look at ways to make it so that you’re having fun all 5 days of the week, so that when the weekend comes you’re able to enjoy it before enthusiastically approaching the week ahead.

Give that some thought, be good to each other, and have a great weekend.
