Weekly offshore wind news
Three new floating offshore wind projects have signed contracts with Norways world-leading test center
METCentre has signed contracts with three companies to test new technologies aimed at reducing the costs of floating offshore wind. The test area is located off Norway's west coast just a few kilometers from Utsira Nord, where Norway’s first commercial floating offshore wind farm is expected to be auctioned next year.
The new contracts involve testing floaters with 15+ MW turbines, a scale unmatched globally and crucial for the future of floating wind farms.
-This is very good news for innovation in floating offshore wind. The technologies now being planned at METCentre will be crucial when we get started with Utsira Nord, says Arvid Nesse, head of METCentre and the industry network Norwegian Offshore Wind.
The projects are also competing for funding from ENOVA's new support program, with details currently confidential. Nesse emphasises that testing and demonstration projects are key to reducing the costs of floating offshore wind.
Exciting development of floating wind in Italy
The Mediterranean is emerging as an important region for floating offshore wind development. The mission of FloatMed is to bring stakeholders and technology leaders together.
Norwegian Offshore Wind’s Italy Working Group will coordinate participation for Norwegian companies interested in attending the FloatMed conference in Bari, October 21st–23rd.
If you are interested, please contact Martine Elise Farstad or Tor Arne Johnsen soon as possible.
New Energy Women Network Event!
We are excited to invite you to the third event in the New Energy Women (NEW) network. NEW is a collaboration between the Norwegian Offshore Wind, H2 Cluster, Energy Valley, and the Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster. Together, we host regular events focusing on topics at the forefront of the renewable energy sector.
Our next event will be hosted by the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) at Kjeller, near Lillestrøm. IFE is a renowned Norwegian research institute, driving innovation through its work in nuclear technology, renewable energy, and energy systems.
In addition, IFE will offer a guided tour of their research facilities, followed by networking over finger food.
