Weekly Recap: Tech and Funding Highlights in the UK -19 April

Fabrice Iranzi here, as we wrap up another productive week, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some developments in the tech and funding landscape here in the UK.

Skyports, a leading player in the urban air mobility sector, soared to new heights this week with an impressive Series C funding round of £88.3 million. to build vertiports and accelerate its drone business. 

The round was led by the ACS Group, existing shareholder, Paris-based airport operator, Groupe ADP will invest additional capital in Skyports. 

Earlier this year Skyports announced the signing of a tripartite agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) and Joby Aviation, will use the funding to build out its vertiports ahead of the launch of air taxi services in Dubai by 2026

GridBeyond secured £44.5 million in Series C funding, showcasing continued investor confidence in the energy sector's transition towards sustainability. Pathios Therapeutics made waves with a significant milestone, announcing a first close of £20.1 million in Series B funding. This investment, backed by Bristol Myers Squibb, Canaan, and Brandon Capital, highlights the exciting advancements taking place in the biotechnology sector right here in the UK.

Wagestream secured £17.5 million in funding, building upon its previous success with an additional injection of capital from British Patient Capital, Lombard Odier Investment Managers, and Northzone. This funding reaffirms Wagestream's position as a key player in the realm of financial wellbeing solutions.

Orbex, a pioneering spaceflight company, announced a Series C funding update of £16.7 million. With support from the Scottish National Investment Bank, Octopus Ventures, and others, Orbex is advancing the frontier of space exploration from right here in the UK.
