Two Sigma records 16% loss for Compass Enhanced Fund
Last year, Two Sigma Investments had varying results in its hedge funds. The Compass Enhanced fund dropped by 16%, while the Absolute Return fund, trading in different strategies, gained 12%, according to a Bloomberg report. The main Compass fund also ended the year with a 6% decline, and the equity quant fund, Spectrum, increased by 8.6%. Two Sigma, managing around $60 billion, faced broader issues, including a feud between its founders and the suspension of a researcher accused of tampering with trading models, as per a regulatory filing.
Millennium appoints Deputy Head of Commodities
Millennium Management, the $60 billion hedge fund led by Izzy Englander, has named Matthew Nguyen as its new Deputy Head of Commodities, as reported by Bloomberg. Sources reveal that Nguyen was previously a Natural Gas Trader at JP Morgan before joining Millennium. This move follows the division of Millennium's commodities unit, led by Anthony Sewell, and recent additions to the team including Katie Edin, Benoit Bosc, and Jeffrey Sun.

Point72 to increase quant quota in London office
Point72 is planning to increase its number of quantitative experts at its London office in St James’s Square, as per a report by eFinancial Careers. Out of the 28 current job openings at Steve Cohen’s London operation, 23 focus on quants, ranging from entry-level to experienced Quant Researchers, with some roles requiring Java experience. Cubist Systematic Strategies, the fund’s algorithmic trading arm, is also looking for a quant PM in London or New York.
Goldman Sachs veteran secures Millennium backing for new Asia hedge fund
Former Goldman Sachs Group Managing Director Jamie Goodman has received support from Millennium Management for his upcoming Asia hedge fund, with Izzy Englander’s $61 million multi-strategy firm investing $500 million in the new fund, as reported by Bloomberg.
The report confirms that Goodman's focus will be on APAC equity capital market deals, including IPOs, follow on share sales, and block trades. The new firm will exclusively manage funds for Millennium for a certain period, according to one of Bloomberg’s sources. Goodman is launching this venture after leaving Maven Investment Partners in Hong Kong, where he held the position of Head of Equity Capital Markets and Portfolio Manager for the APAC.
