Weekly Round-Up
Looking back at the week and resharing thoughts, career tips, job openings, and the people and posts that inspired me.
Celebrations in the Month of May
This week we celebrated national #NursesWeek and shared how we are committed to supporting our #HealthcareHeroes as they battle the effects of COVID-19 here and around the world. Our nurses are redefining the way health care is delivered every day—they’re on the frontlines of patient care, helping patients in person or over the phone.
“Great opportunities! I am in awe of our nurses and all healthcare workers.” —Jay D’Aprile
While we celebrate Mexico's victory at the Battle of Puebla on #CincoDeMayo, we must also remember that we are fighting the battle of mental illness which has disproportionately affected Latino communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
May 5th also marked #GivingTuesdayNow in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On this global day of giving, we found ways to show our support to our #HealthcareHeroes and frontline workers, essential employees, small business owners, and friends and family. Don’t stop there, let’s come together for our communities, today and every day.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
CVS Health is committed to flattening the "second curve," the less visible but escalating mental health crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. To help address America's expanding mental and emotional wellbeing needs, the company is enhancing its nationwide mental health programming effort with new charitable investments focused on health care workers, essential workers, and seniors.
Our emotional support hotline is available nationwide (1-833-327-2386) whether you're an Aetna member or not. And Frontline workers can text FRONTLINE to 741741 to connect with a Crisis Text Line counselor 24/7.
“Thanks for sharing this great program, Susan Medina. Only a small portion of the people who have a mental health issue in any given year receive professional health care or other services. Efforts like this will help close that gap.” —Dave Busch
#TeamCVS is supporting Americares COVID-19 Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Project with a $500,000 contribution from the Aetna Foundation to help frontline health care workers, particularly those who serve low-income populations, improve their mental health awareness, knowledge and resiliency, and understand the mental health concerns impacting their patients.
“Congrats to the whole CVS Health team for how you have stepped up in so many ways for the consumer” —Sri Rajagopalan

Searching for Meaning in Your Work
At CVS Health, we bring our hearts to work as we help people on their path to better health. Faced with a global pandemic and domestic unemployment numbers that are surging, individuals are searching for purpose and meaning in their work and lives, now more than ever. This paradigm shift from doing work that is cool or cutting edge to doing work that is helping others or the greater good is a conversation we've been having with candidates lately. Many people are searching for work that adds value or drives technology forward in productive ways for society. Having been forced to social distance, some candidates are now assessing the cities they call home and wondering if relocating to be a part of something purposeful would be more fulfilling. How are you feeling about your work and how it fits into the bigger picture? #CVSHeartAtWork
#careertips
- Trust is essential. If you trust your employees and let them fail, they'll learn more from their experience.
- When evaluating companies of interest to you, research and get to know their work, industry, and competitors.
Remembering the Importance of Diversity
So often during times of economic downturn, we as organizations lose focus on the importance of diversity and inclusion. The panic that comes in a crisis, shifts our mindsets from right-fit to right-fit-for-right-now. This crisis, in particular, has exacerbated economic and cultural disparities and, as recruiters, it's our job to ensure that we continue to build inclusive candidate slates and networks so we can foster diverse and inclusive workforces.
