Search firms and company executives termed this as a growing trend: expats coming in for six months to two years for roles focused on short-term projects or technical leadership. Some of these candidates are using these as gigs after retirement and are keen because their expertise is much sought after. Pay is high too — $3,000-4,000 a day for advisors and $200,000-300,000 plus bonus annually for others, said search firms. “The trend toward short-term expatriate assignments is driven by a combination of factors such as the desire for global talent, cost control and project-specific expertise.

With IT firms and employees increasingly using AI tools to write codes, hiring tests for entry level and junior engineers are getting changed. From being asked to write simple codes, candidates are being asked to optimise and restructure existing AI written codes, to improve quality, say analysts working on AI and cyber security. With AI tools easily available, IT firms are also ensuring that they don't hire candidates who can just copy paste codes.

Retirement fund body EPFO has seen a 6.6 per cent year-on-year rise in contributing employers to 7.66 lakh while recording 7.6 per cent growth in members to 7.37 crore in 2023-24, a labour ministry statement stated. According to a statement issued on Sunday, the labour secretary and Chairperson of the Executive Committee, Central Board, Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), presided over the 109th Meeting of the Executive Committee on November 8, 2024, at EPFO Head Office in the national capital.

Indians are among the most studious populations in the world, according to a new study by the NOP World Culture Score Index. Every individual has a different grasping capacity for things. The majority of students who have cleared UPSC, Banking, JEE, NEET and other such tests say that they studied anywhere between 10 to 12 hours every day to clear the exam. However, some students managed to clear these difficult exams with just three to four hours of daily self-study. So, clearly, the hours do not necessarily define your grasping capacity when it comes to studies.

Smaller Southeast Asian markets, including Vietnam (86%), Thailand (87%) and the Philippines (65%) lead the region in actively hiring individuals with mental health conditions. Close to half (45%) of organisations surveyed in Singapore have expressed hesitation to "actively employ" people with mental health conditions, while 26% are unsure if their companies actively employ such individuals — a number that was higher than the regional average.

Despite many organisations practising rigorous hiring and a relentless focus on positive values, toxic behaviours can sneak in, often masquerading as competence or ambition. Even organisations designated as Great Places to Work are not immune and the onus is on leaders to prevent toxicity that may go under the radar from festering into a larger organisational problem. Working with toxic people can create a tremendous emotional burden, leaving employees feeling emotionally and mentally drained. This leads to stress, anxiousness, burnout, and in extreme cases, severe depression and suicidal thoughts.

In today’s competitive talent landscape, employee retention strategies are evolving rapidly. Retaining top talent requires more than just offering competitive salaries; it involves fostering an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and connected. With the rise of hybrid work models, increased focus on well-being, and demands for career growth, companies need to adapt their retention strategies to meet the changing expectations of the modern workforce.

In the past, navigating a corporate career meant taking calculated steps to climb the corporate ladder. For the most part, this traditional view of career advancement is outdated. Following the downsizing that occurred in the 1980s and early 1990s, workplace loyalty began declining. Today, people have different values and priorities. They won’t hesitate to change jobs for a pay raise, more flexibility or a better work-life balance.

However, many job seekers miss out on opportunities by making common mistakes that weaken their LinkedIn presence. A well-crafted profile can significantly increase your visibility and desirability to recruiters and hiring managers, while a lackluster one may result in missed opportunities.
