OpenAI Nears ‘Reasoning’ AI Breakthrough
OpenAI is reportedly close to a major milestone in AI reasoning capabilities. Their new AGI framework suggests that a Level 2 AI system could solve basic problems at the level of a human with a doctorate, albeit without external tools. In a recent all-hands meeting, OpenAI leadership showcased a research project using the GPT-4 model, which they believe is nearing this human-like reasoning ability, according to a source familiar with the discussion who spoke to Bloomberg. Neuralink Unveils "Telepathy": A Groundbreaking Brain-Computer Interface
Neuralink has announced a significant advancement with their new brain-computer interface technology, "Telepathy," which allows users to control digital devices purely by thinking. The first patient with the Telepathy implant is recovering well, showing promising results. This technology aims to provide digital independence to individuals with paralysis and has the potential to restore motor functions and even enable vision in blind individuals in the future. The development marks a major step forward in integrating human and digital intelligence. Source: Wired.
How Good Is ChatGPT at Coding?
Programmers have spent decades writing code for AI models, and now AI is being used to write code. But how does an AI code generator compare to a human programmer? A new study shows that ChatGPT's success rate in producing functional code ranges from 0.66% to 89%, depending on the task's difficulty, the programming language, and other factors. OpenAI: We’re at Level 2 of 5 in AGI Development
OpenAI believes we're at Level 2 of 5 in its new AGI ranking system, indicating PhD-level problem-solving capabilities. Their roadmap envisions AI evolving from current chatbots (Level 1) to AIs that can run entire companies (Level 5). Recently, OpenAI showcased a research project hinting at this human-like reasoning. As AGI advances, we could see AI agents automating jobs, inventing new technologies, and potentially replacing entire organizational structures. Source: Bloomberg
AI's Persuasive Powers
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Arianna Huffington, CEO of Thrive Global, revealed their collaboration in an article published in Time. They introduced Thrive AI, a startup supported by Thrive and OpenAI’s Startup Fund, designed to promote healthier behaviors through real-time, personalized AI coaching. This initiative highlights AI's potential to positively impact public health by encouraging better daily habits. Despite the enthusiasm, the company is also considering the risks associated with AI's influence on human behavior. Source: Wired.
Autonomous Humanoid Robots Transform BMW Assembly Line
In January 2024, robotics firm Figure deployed its 01 humanoid robot at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina facility under a new commercial agreement. The fully autonomous robot, guided by neural networks that map pixels to actions, demonstrated its capabilities in vehicle assembly. With bionic hands and advanced AI systems, Figure 01 is part of a broader move towards automation in the automotive industry, aiming to increase productivity and address workforce challenges. This technology highlights a future where robots perform unsafe or undesirable jobs, driven by precise and adaptive learning systems. Source: Interesting Engineering
