In a field as diverse as WASH, various backgrounds and viewpoints contribute to a holistic understanding of the challenges linked to SDG 6, leading to tailored, context-specific approaches. Here’s what experts told us about what the sector needs from its workforce to achieve sustainable water and sanitation.
✅ Data analysis. This is crucial in identifying regions most needing improved WASH services and helps governments and organizations allocate resources where they will have the most impact.
✅ Climate literacy. It’s not just about understanding the problem but also knowing how to design systems that can thrive in the face of adversity, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation even as the climate evolves.
✅ Funding management. Securing the funding required to implement projects that yield sustainable and cost-effective results is still difficult in many countries. Experts recommend having a “solid understanding of blended financing models for service delivery.”
