Autoimmune Disorders
We provide specialty infusion pharmacy and support services for patients with autoimmune disorders. Immunoglobulin (IG) helps calm the immune system and reduce inflammatory flare ups associated with autoimmune disorders. Our immunology program includes a full line of specialty medications used to treat autoimmune disorders, including immunoglobulin (IG) which has become the standard treatment option in practices throughout the U.S.
BioMatrix helps manage the individual needs of patients requiring IG therapy. As a specialty infusion pharmacy, our clinical teams have extensive training and experience in rare diseases, infusion therapies, and complex medical conditions. Knowledgeable pharmacists and care coordination staff guide each patient through the potential medication side effects and, working with the prescribing physician, help manage treatment to reduce the prevalence and severity of relapses.
We also administer in-home treatment to provide a more comfortable and convenient infusion experience. The result is safe, consistent, and compassionate treatment for our patients with nursing needs. Where appropriate, our in-home nursing team trains patients to administer their own injectable or infusible drugs, fostering more independence. After the home visit and administration, our nurses also guide patients on continuing with their therapy, help minimize or manage side effects, and answer questions that patients may have throughout their treatment plan.
340B
After hearing testimony from 340B partners, Congress appears to side more with pharmaceutical manufacturers than hospitals in the debate. Congress agrees to the program needing more oversight and has pushed forward a bill, “340B Access Act,” that would restrict contract pharmacies and would require hospitals to report how they use their savings. On the other side, the “340B Patients Act” would penalize drugmakers who impose contract pharmacy restrictions. In a recent court win, however, drug manufacturers are being allowed to impose restrictions on contract pharmacies.
Nursing
The nursing debate continues: do we have a nursing shortage, or not? Hospitals report a shortage, but other sources counter this. For one, there was a 6% increase in registered nurses in 2023, but that growth occurred in non-hospital settings. Some sources allege hospitals keep nursing staff short as a means to control costs; others claim nurses have soured on parts of the industry with poor working conditions.
