Every leader can make a difference in the world and leading by example is where it all starts.

I am delighted to share my 24 resolutions describing how I plan to lead with soul in 2024:

1.      Always put people at the heart of everything you do - true to the humanist movement created by Confucius and Socrates.

2.      Allocate time in your schedule to support your community with passion. If we all do this, the world will be a much better place.

3.      Demonstrate restless curiosity by being open to people who have different points of view. They will make the conversation richer and your own thinking sharper.

4.      Treat the time you get with your customers as a valuable chance to get their perspective on what you can do differently. Customer intimacy is the ultimate advantage.

5.      Do not get overwhelmed by data points. Take a data science-based approach to making your decisions rigorously.

6.      Diversity in the workplace makes us stronger. Make your organisation a vibrant mosaic of different people, beliefs, and dreams.

7.      Empower your teams to succeed, inspire them with a meaningful purpose, give them the tools they need, and always recognise wins.

8.      Operate with an ‘ever better’ mantra. No matter how successful you are, there is always a better way to move your business forward.

9.      Facilitate global trade and help corporations to go to market faster with stronger, safer and more sustainable value chains. Global trade is a source of progress.

10.   Be paranoid about what you can do to accelerate talent development. Unleashing the full potential of your people is extremely rewarding.

11.   Remember what Socrates said: ‘One thing I know is that I know nothing.’ Be humble and show respect to all stakeholders.

12.   Make inclusion an integral part of your value proposition, helping your clients provide equal access to their products and services for all.

13.   Saying what you mean and doing what you say in every situation is what integrity is all about. Doing business the right way is the only way!

14.   Invest in the future. Delivering superior growth is exhilarating. It strengthens your competitive advantage and provides great opportunities for all.

15.   Promote Kindness. Caring for each other in the thick of the action is a powerful source of energy and will accelerate performance. Guaranteed.

16.   Take the time to listen to people’s real stories to genuinely sense the pulse of the organisation. Leading with the right antennae is much more fun.

17.   Implement your Net Zero plans with pace to reduce your Co2 emissions. 2023 was the hottest year in the last 174 years. The race to Net Zero is real.

18.   Fair pricing with the best service will create superior value for your clients. Excessive price increases for short term profit gains will only serve to eradicate growth.

19.   Be mindful of geo-politics and stay-away from polemics. What we do at Intertek is mission critical to make sure the entire world‘s supply chains operate safely 24/7.

20.   Never stop re-inventing your business to create a culture of vigorous and continuous innovation. If you don’t, someone will take you out of business one day.

21.   Never stop learning from every situation, every day. Continuous learning is the only way to stay fit as a leader.

22.   Being risk aware and risk prepared will enable you to take advantage of opportunities. This is the best way to create value and outperform your competitors.

23.   Encourage teamwork in all parts of the organisation. This will create the right culture to seize growth opportunities first by being agile and innovative.

24.   Make sustainability systemic in your organisation to deliver sustainable growth and value for all: employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, regulators and communities.
