2024 DATA AND AI SALARY GUIDES 💼
For over a decade, Harnham has been surveying data & AI professionals and industry leaders to provide invaluable insights into salary trends, hiring practices, and market developments shaping the future of the industry.
Here are some of the key insights from this year’s guides, offering a snapshot of trends shaping the Data & AI landscape globally:
1️⃣ AI Integration and Policies on the Rise Across the UK, 58% of professionals use AI in their workflows, with 34% of organisations adopting official AI policies. The push for generative AI and large language models (LLMs) continues to redefine hiring priorities.
2️⃣ Shifting Workforce Dynamics in the Netherlands and France Job security in the Netherlands has improved, with 66% of professionals feeling stable in their roles—a 3% increase from 2023. In France, job security is even higher at 69%, reflecting a 5% increase from last year. However, only 17% of Dutch professionals and 15% of French professionals are willing to leave their current roles, much lower than the UK (59%) and the US (63%).
3️⃣ Gender Representation in Data Roles The gender balance in data roles continues to be a challenge, with an 85:15 male-to-female split in France. Additionally, male professionals in the US earn 16% more than their female counterparts, while in the UK, the gap widens to 18%. Despite these disparities, France’s data workforce skews younger, with 86% of professionals under the age of 45, indicating strong growth potential.
4️⃣ Contracting Trends in a Shifting Market In the US, 33% of contractors saw an hourly rate increase averaging 10%, but contract extensions dropped to 33%, down from 49% last year. These insights underscore the strategic importance of contract talent in navigating market changes.
What Does This Mean for 2025? As we step into 2025, these insights highlight the need for organisations to remain agile and competitive. Focusing on transparent career pathways, equitable compensation, and thoughtful integration of emerging technologies like generative AI will be key to attracting and retaining top talent.
