Wellness for All: We are Living Longer - Top 5 Things to Do

Hello Reader,

We have so much living to do!

Inspired by my mentors, friends, and loved ones in their 70's, 80's and 90's who I have been watching travel the world, actively contributing to society and causes, launching new projects and businesses, and enjoying life, has me considering the possibilities of what's next as I age.

It's so inspiring to see people living life so robustly. Getting older no longer needs to mean slowing down or living with ill health, if we take care now.

We are living longer, so how can we live better? Happier? More complete and cared for?

Below are 5 things to do to live happier and healthier well into the best years of our life.

What age do you want to live to, and what do you plan to do? Let me know in the comments.

Have a day to treasure,

We are living longer! Top 5 Things to Do.

On average, people are living longer today than they did in the past. This is largely due to improvements in medical technology, public health measures, and advances in our understanding of nutrition and disease prevention.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), global life expectancy at birth has increased from 64.2 years in 1990 to 73.3 years in 2020. In high-income countries, life expectancy at birth is even higher, with an average of 80 years or more in countries like Japan, Switzerland, and Australia.

However, it is important to note that life expectancy can vary widely depending on factors such as gender, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. For example, women generally live longer than men, and people living in poverty or in certain regions may have shorter life expectancies due to limited access to healthcare and other resources. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global life expectancy, with some countries experiencing declines in life expectancy due to the high number of deaths from the virus.

Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears. - John Lennon

Prepare to live longer, with more happiness and health:

As people live longer, it is important to take steps to ensure a good quality of life in later years. Here are some ways to prepare for a longer life:

1.          Maintain a healthy lifestyle: This includes regular exercise, a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and getting enough sleep. A healthy lifestyle can help prevent chronic diseases and maintain physical and cognitive function as you age.

2.          Plan for retirement: With a longer life expectancy comes a longer retirement period. It is important to plan ahead and save enough money to cover your living expenses in retirement.

3.          Stay socially connected: Social isolation and loneliness can have negative effects on physical and mental health, particularly in older adults. Make an effort to stay connected with friends and family, join social groups or clubs, and volunteer in your community.

4.          Stay mentally active: Engage in activities that challenge your brain, such as puzzles, reading, or learning new skills. This can help maintain cognitive function and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

5.          Plan for long-term care: As you age, you may require assistance with daily living activities. Consider your options for long-term care, such as in-home care or assisted living facilities, and plan ahead financially for these expenses.

By taking steps to maintain physical and mental health, plan for retirement and long-term care, and stay socially connected, you can prepare for a longer, healthier life.

I plan to live to at least the age of 100. As I continue to live a healthy lifestyle, I trust that my health and vitality will last for as long as I'm in my earthly body. As far as what I plan to do, my intention is to continue to follow my inner guidance and wisdom, since I know this will always lead me to my greatest joy and to my ability to serve at the highest level. 💜

I don't plan what to do with life as much as I live as if life is an enormous gift, every person, everything, every contact with humans is momentous and every moment is full of the extraordinary and I find others who feel the same or show me their amazing experience of life. And I pray and dance as if god, the universe or whatever you wish to name it, is watching me and they want to join in the fun.

Such great questions, Anna Pereira Chairwoman Soul Ventures! I'm planning on living well into my 90s, pushing 100 -- my mom is 93 and going strong so I've got great genes. And already have all the mind, body, heart and spirit practices in place to support that vision. However long I'm on Earth in this lifetime, my plan is to continue my journey with love, joy, and serving others... and to continue that into my next lifetime, too!

I plan to live to at least 109. Who knows ? Maybe 133. My Great Grandfather died at 96 bicycling to his girlfriend's house. Staying active is a major goal for me. My Aunt was paddling in an outriggger canoe at 85. She kept very active. I am following in her footsteps. I already stay mentally active teaching and coaching channeling and guiding meditations and hypnosis. I like finding new spiritual gifts I can reclaim (a benefit investigating past lives). So, recently, I claimed "Crystal Healer". So, let's all stay healthy and enjoy our years.

This is a beautiful question Anna Pereira Chairwoman Soul Ventures, and one I have thought about often. We are living longer so how can we contribute more as we gain elderhood? The world needs our wisdom. How can we continue to grow, thrive and change with the times? My life has been full of meaning and deeply rewarding so far. If I leave the planet tomorrow, I will have no regrets. Except that I feel I can live a full and robust life over 100 years. I'm excited by the challenge. How can I continue to contribute to making the world a more joyful place for another four or five decades? I'm just getting started! There's so much yet to learn! I'm calling in a tribe of elders living in vitality and freedom. Your five tips are a great foundation to build on.
