We're all in this together! Happy Defence Day!

Today, as we mark another Defence Day in Pakistan, a wave of nostalgia hits me. September 6th and 7th were always special; they were not just days off school but a tradition where we'd go to the base runway. Cockpit tours, mesmerizing fly pasts by the 'Sherdils', and air force memorabilia like F-16 keychains. These were the markers of my childhood. Yet, beyond the festivities, I find myself reflecting on what this day truly means. It's not just a tribute to the heroes of the 1965 war; it’s also a day to honor the dedicated men and women safeguarding our nation in conflict and in peace.

Growing up, dinner table talks weren't just everyday chit-chat. They were saga-like tales of bravery, resilience, and courage, narrated by my two uncles. And my dad? 50 years of training cadets, officers and teachers with the Pakistan Air Force. My uncle's experiences in a POW camp in 1971 taught us about camaraderie, resilience, and the indomitable value of family. This is the legacy that shaped me and that I proudly embrace.

But let’s zoom out for a second; our military's scope isn't just confined to the battleground. They're also first responders during calamities, like floods and earthquakes. Remember the recent cable car mishap up north? Our military mobilized in record time, making sure those kids came back home safely. And who could forget their role in UN peace missions?

Let's just address the elephant in the room for a second. Our political landscape? It’s got its fair share of turbulence. Dissent, debates, dissatisfaction; it's a mixed bag. But here’s the truth: such challenges don't overshadow the unwavering dedication of generations of our military personnel. They represent some of the finest chapters in our nation's book. Let’s separate the wheat from the chaff, shall we? We owe heaps of gratitude to these men and women for their unparalleled service to Pakistan.

This land we call Pakistan is not just lines on a map. It's a mosaic of diverse thoughts, aspirations, and legacies. Although times are polarized, this too shall pass. Beyond our differences, we're bound by the green and white flag that flutters in our hearts. Let’s pivot towards collective prosperity, putting our beloved homeland first.

Defence Day serves as a poignant reminder of our military legacy and our shared purpose. As we navigate economic challenges, let's channel the same spirit of sacrifice and commitment thats embodied by our armed forces. We're all in this together!

Keep the spirit high, Pakistan. Happy Defence Day!
