"But we're a great business to work for"
When asked the question, "why would a candidate want to work for you" the answer "We're a great business to work for" is amazingly common to the point it's no longer a selling point. Let's be honest it's vague and offers no real insight.
By no means am I suggesting your business is boring. What differs this from the candidate who says they are "a dynamic, team player with great skills"?
Ask yourself - "How do the technology community see me / us?"
Are you in spotlight? Are you helping to build the Industry and it's staff?
If not - don't panic because it's NEVER too late.
Companies such as Amaze, Sky, Thoughtworks, Laterooms and BJSS all put on some amazing forums / events (NOT death by power point) addressing the latest technologies, methodologies and how to adopt them.
It's things like this that help people grow their skills and therefore their career. Both major influences when deciding on where a candidate might want to work.
Just food for thought.
