WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERED THIS WEEK

Trump and Harris Face off in likely only presidential debate

Kamala Harris was the clear winner of this week’s presidential debate.

There was no unhinged laughter from her, no speaking in generalities, just a disciplined focus on policy. It was her performance as vice president so far.

Trump, on the other hand, kept scoring own goals after own goals.

No American politician has more experience with mainstream media than he does…yet he still came off completely unprepared. Incoherence doesn’t work that well against an attorney.

The race is still essentially a coin flip and I don’t expect the debate to shift people’s opinions and impact the outcome significantly.

Turkey's Erdogan Says Russia Must Return Crimea to Ukraine

Erdogan this week: “The return of Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law.”

Fact check: true.

Mario Draghi outlines his plan to make Europe more competitive

Some key recommendations from the European Commission’s new report on European competitiveness include:

  • Mobilizing joint EU borrowing
  • Engaging in cautious/pragmatic trade with China & USA
  • Keeping European companies in Europe
  • Focusing on European industrial strategy
  • Reforming EU decision-making

While this sounds good on paper, the capacity of the EU to implement these changes is pretty limited.

U.S. and Chinese military commanders speak by phone for the first time in years

Some welcome news in US-China relations (for once).

WHAT TO READ THIS WEEK

On Freedom by Timothy Snyder

Freedom is the great American commitment – but have we lost sight of what it actually means? In his newest book, Timothy Snyder challenges our conventional understanding of freedom while offering compelling insight into the human experience. On Freedom is an inspiring must-read, teaching us that liberty isn’t about removing what stands in our way, but actively choosing to create new opportunities for future generations to flourish.

DEEP THOUGHTS

“Knowledge—that is, education in its true sense—is our best protection against unreasoning prejudice and panic-making fear. - Franklin D. Roosevelt

USA left-right is quite even, it's quiet interesting to see this trend and how "neutral" can fit into for win-win. Opportunity Economy was mentioned 2 years ago based on the new principle developed when left and right were debating on equality, rich vs poor, sociology vs capitalism. Hence the term opportunity was introduced to match equality, Opportunity Economy Model expresses equal opportunity that is promised to be made available for anyone, with growth principle yet fair for everyone. Resilient economy was created as a prep for this opportunity and later creative innovation later. Erm, there are many potentials in the framework, how to sell the full version? Just fyi only, can't monetize it here.

Interestingly, Biden's debate debacle was catastrophic and Earth shaking for the Democrats and U.S. election precedence and created history... So, there is more than meets the eye...

ABC won the debate, which is why it won’t move the needle. Look back at 2016. Hillary was widely regarded as “winning” all of the debates, for acting similarly to Kamala, and having the moderators on her side. That condescending smirk that Kamala had was the same as Hillary’s. It says “I hate you plebes. Why do I even have to deign to this crap?”
