What are the best answers to 'Why should we hire you?'

Interviews can be a nightmare for some people, especially if it isn't an environment that someone is used to.

There are a number of different ways that hiring managers run interview processes but the most common method is a question based interview. This can take many forms from technical questioning, competency based questioning, personality questions and many others.

Being prepared for the various types of interviewing methods is essential to ensure the best possible chance of being successful. One of the most trickiest questions out of them is the 'So tell me, why should we hire you?' or any other variation of this.

With this type of question it is always important to remember the CLC structure. Content, Loyalty, and Confidence.

  • Content: Before you appear in an interview, you should thoroughly research the company and its recent innovation initiatives. It is very easy to find this information as every company has boasted about their work on their official website. Simply go to “About Us” and “News” page of any company website, find recent information that talks about company values and future initiatives. This information will help you understand what the company wants to see in their potential future employees. For some companies, their work culture is very important while for other technical and industry knowledge hold the highest priority. Prepare your answer based on your content research. Here is an example,
  • For example: “You should hire me because of three reasons.
  • First, your company has shown tremendous growth in the automobile industry and related innovation. I have earned deep technical knowledge in the automobile industry and I am always up to speed with recent advancements in this industry. I have also written a research paper on “XYZ Technology”.
  • Second, I have read a lot about your company culture and it is amazing to see that everyone follows People Culture here. I am a person who is empathetic and a team player. If you ask my previous co-workers, they would define me a reliable person that they can trust both personally and professionally.
  • Third, based on my research and conversation with multiple employees of your company, I found that your company invests a lot on its employees technical and professional growth which is commendable. I am always keen to learn and improve my technical and business skills so that I am 100% prepared for any challenging project. I will always make sure that I return the best value to the company.”
  • If you notice, I have covered not just why I am technically fit to the company but also professional skills like team player ability, etc. These days companies have changed a lot, they want to provide a very healthy and productive environment for their employees, that’s why it is important to show your soft-skills.
  • Loyalty: No matter how skilled you are, you have to show your loyalty to a particular brand and company to get selected. You should mention indirectly in your answer and resume that you were very loyal to your previous employers. Also, mention that you see a long career with your future employer. Based on your research, pick a few points that talk about future investments of the company and frame your answer based on that research.
  • Confidence: Confidence is the key! Preparation is super important so that your answer sounds natural and not scripted. You should be confident that you really mean what you are saying. Confidence is not something that is related to the content, it is all about the way you speak and your body language. Maintain proper eye contact and speak slowly. Sometimes, candidates tend to speak very fast and the sound under confident.
